  1. Got this a few years back in a trade with Bill Hughes. I am a sucker for those tongue covers!
  2. Always liked this cover. Most of the Kid run doesn't do much for me. I think someone said before, if this cover was on another title it would be HUGE!
  3. Got this from Steve Borock at a Chicago Con back when he was still behind a table selling books.
  4. Congrats on the upgrade Thanks. I just posted something on the manufactured gold thread about that. Interesting dilemma.
  5. This has the wonderful colors of a pyschedelic 60s poster! The blacks are all fuzzy like felt too! I keep a black light in the comic room just for this cover!
  6. Good lord that's a sweet book. Just stunning. Rich, when are you going start showing us your good books? Just kidding... your books kick serious @ss. I still remember that pic of all your Timely's on display for the Diamond collector of the week years ago. That was awesome! West Thanks West. I started going through this thread from the beginning when I first got on here and I seem to remember some awesome books of yours there at the start. By the way, I have your old All Winners 4. I will post it later this week. I traded you a Mile High Detective in the 110 - 130 range for it at Wonder-Con in the mid '90s.
  7. you laughed at that 'thumb' barb, huh? well as to the description "cheap, but fun," looks like you got it half right. I'm still hearing echoes of laughter. Everyone around here is laughing heartily. And not at Bill's book.
  8. i was there when it was pointed out--wasn't mattie. it was a bird from a more northern clime. a very excitable bird. You are sooo right! Credit where credit is due. Thanks go to Mr. Elsenpeter.
  9. Just got this. Jumbo 14 always has that weird faded/washed out look. This copy certainly has it in the logo. Why was that? It looks like a transfer stain through from the inside cover add. Makes it hard to find a copy with nice eye appeal. But the colors are super bright on this one. Gotta like Edgar's books.
  10. Got this out of the McLaughlin/Heritage auction. It was listed raw as a vf/nm. I think they nailed it. I love the little tier of characters down the left side. Got the Green Hornet 8 out of the same auction and it has the same kind of cover layout.
  11. A little funny book for your viewing pleasure. Got this off of ebay 4-5 years ago. It was graded an 8.5. I used to crack everything out of the holders. Now I am getting everything graded. While I have had some books pressed (Oh Horrors!) I just resubmitted this to get it back in a slab. Bonus!
  12. believe me, he can keep those babies coming until your retinas are but burned-out cinders. of course, you can still thumb and smell your books thereafter. If Billy asks you to smell his thumb......DON'T
  13. Someone asked for a post of this a few weeks back after Pons-Con. I got this from Rob Hughes two years ago. He got it a few years before that from Bob Casali. I believe Bob has another nice copy. And I know the Ohio copy is maybe nicer. It may not be as tough as people think, but who's selling?
  14. I honestly don't remember where I got this book. It was in the early '90s. It was the last one I needed to complete the run. It wasn't sold to me as the San Francicso. The Tom Reilly stamp is buried in the black and white back cover and you really have to look to find it. Matt Nelson pointed it out to me one day when he was going through my books. Frisco or not it is an IMPOSSIBLE book to get in grade. I think the next highest is a 4.5.
  15. I used to work at a comic store while I was in high school in the late '70s in Houston called Camelot. It was owned by Burrel Rowe (the guy who loaned Chuck the money for....). I would work on the weekends and holidays for credit. There was a warehouse room upstairs and all I did was sort comics all day. I found this in a stack. It cost me $100.00 in work trade. That was about 25 hours. Heck of a deal.
  16. Got this from the Heritage White Rose sale. This was before Crippens were such a big deal. The original holder had "D Copy" on it. (I used to crack everything out of the holders, but a divorce, and grimey comic geek hands, changed my thinking.) While I know there are rarer Marvel Mystery issues I don't think any are as tough to pry out of people's hands as the issues from 36 - 48. All have GREAT covers and all are really undervalued in the guide. I paid over $6000.00 for this but I had never seen a copy (yes, I said any copy) available in high grade. I think this may still be the highest on the census. No, it ain't for sale!
  17. Just a little sumpin' to test whether my posts are working. Got this at the 1981 San Diego Comic-Con from Ron Pussell (Redbeard's). I remember he had it priced at $1500, a lot of dough back then. More than I paid for Mystic #1. Esoteric books were all the rage in the early "80s and Ron was specializing in them. From me he took stuff like Lars of Mars 11, a Frazetta Movie Romance, and two high grade copies of Complete Book of True Crime. There was more and I am sure he made a boatload of money off of them but I still think I got the better end of the deal. That's the sign of a good trade!
  18. The eyes on that front Hardy Boy make it clear what they're keeping Secret at the Old Mill. Jack Conjunctivitis?
  19. The best thing about that pool table is that I've won lots of money, lunches, etc. there. Oh and the books are cool too!
  20. Mightn't you be Richard Evans? Welcome. richard evans? is that the guy that sets up at chicago and uses all his friends as free labor while he trawls the floor for bargains? will these boards take on just ANY riff-raff? That's right Parker. After you move those boxes go and get me a coke!
  21. Speaking of fantastic covers....this "pair of blue jeans" arrived today.. Wow, nice comic book Ciorac. Being as this is my first time to post on these boards I don't know much. But I can sure tell that YOU have a nice collection! Must be one of the best around. Maybe you can give me a few pointers.
