To me, it does not appear married at all.

Again, ask yourself why would someone replace staples? The usual reason is because the originals had rust. There is no real reason otherwise to mess around with staples (unless you had a book where they were not firmly punched through the centrefold and were trying to replace an original poor staple manufacture job with your own). The staples on the book you have have rust/tarnish on them so why would someone replace rusty staples with rusty staples? Granted, these replacement staples could have rusted since they were replaced. But the final thing I ask myself is is it on a book that matters. I am not an expert but that book does not appear to be a high value book (I cant tell which issue but it appears to be early 70s FF). Thus taking the time to replace them seems pointless.

Just double check the top staple. If the holes and indents where the staple folds over then I think there should be zero worry. The bottom staple looks great and the top, while appearing different in images, is likely fine also.

Thanks for the insight! It’s not a super expensive copy, but it’s a mid grade ff49. So there might be some incentive, not a much though. I’m always worried about unseen resto when I make a purchase over a couple of hundred dollars-have been burned once, and it sucks lol

The bottom staple seems fine. In the centerfold, there is a spot of rust migrated to the paper underneath that corresponds with a spot on the staple.

The top staple isn't as clear cut. There seems to be an indentation above the staple in the centerfold that does not correspond with the staple. Yet, there is no rust on the paper or indicator WHY someone would swap out that staple. I don't know.

Thanks for the insight. Married couples and swapped staples are always hard for me to identify. That being said, since the bottom one looks good-I am going to hope the top one is legit, but we will see after I get it graded lol

I'm tentatively with JohnT on this one, but I'm prepared to go as low as 3.5 VG- if that squiggly color break thru The Thing's lower limbs is actually a cover-penetrating tear.  hm  Look closely, and then get back to us.

So, now I’m a little worried lol I don’t think it’s a rip, but I’m always cautious about resto work…tell me what ya think from the pics. 1E90DC7F-8E45-46A1-BE8C-00F8395FC31F.thumb.jpeg.580c77c3c444fae4b9bd03e4b77d8958.jpeg

It's likely in the dark area to the left of Hulk's word bubble. Probably covering some hairline creases. In fact, it appears some of it may bleed into the white area of the spine.

It was. Although it looks like sharpie, or pen, not really covering up anything even though it’s over two color breaks.

  5. Picked up a copy of Hulk 180, that was already graded, and had a restored label. Was looking to remove the restoration, just for the experience-I haven’t had any restored books before.
however, the “restoration” looks like a kid just drew a little on the cover in some small spots-not to hide any flaws.
Can someone help me figure out if this can be removed, or if it even really is restoration?

  6. Hello,

I recently received my books from a submission, and all of them have a loose inner well, that is causing a slight knocking inside anytime I move the slab around. Is this normal? It doesn’t seem secure, or safe for the staples in the comic.

    Any insight would be appreciated!

    Hello,

You do know that the book will be regraded, right?  Just pointing that out because you seemed to refer to it as a 'reholder.'  You might not end up with the same grade.

Yea i know that. On their form, the service was listed under the reholder section...and I think referred to as a crossover reholder somewhere.
