  1. in December 8th 1980, John Lennon was shot to death and I couldn't keep myself from contribuiting!
  2. In 1981 I had a Jeff Crawford surfboard (1 fin). I had to inmortalize it in a drawing!
  3. It's like FF #48 beats FF #49 in every grade, except 9.8 because there's only 1
  4. No, it's in dollars. But it went down 10% due to Covid-19 and will keep doing so if they don't come out with a vacine! This pool of money belongs to 5 people close to me and we're all stuck in it until things get back to normal again (hopefuly soon).
  5. I don't have the money right now and CGC 9.6 would be out of my range, but FYI
  6. Thanks for your sincere advice. I not in a rush at all, I'm just catching up for being abroad for so long. Last year I didn't even know CGC existed! . . . LoL! Then I went to USA and took 16 of my best comics to Quick Press and Grade, but they're taking so loooooonnnnnggggggg!!!! I didn't read the small print: "83 working days to Quick Press". My best 16: Avg. 3,16,17,18,19,20,25,28,47,48,57,87 Capt America 100, 117 Marvel Feature #1 & Hero For Hire #1 But this is a great hobby and I'm willing to get back into it, step by step. While I was in Los Angeles I bought ASM #300 (CGC 8.5) and NEW MUTANTS #98 (RAW) but CGC returned it 9.2 so I'm happy Here I'm just learning little by little, and whatever I come up to, I'll go back to USA next year for shopping. Hopefuly The pandemic will be over by then, but right now I'm living in Perú and here it's a hell hole! I'm stranded at home and learning more each day about comic book collecting! Enough said!
  7. I agree, but then, isn't this the right moment to invest in comics? When the prices are in a downslope, I mean.
  8. I sicerely appretiate this information. This is way beyond my comicbook collection time but still, good to know! I collected comics during my last years living in the USA (1972-1973) and my small collection comes down to Avengers 3, 5, 14, 16-111 also Captain America 100-161 so now I'm willing to buy only key books regardless of their age (gold, silver, bronce or modern).
  9. Thank you very much for the heads up, but I'm a retired 60 yo guy who wish to re-do his childhood past time. I know I can invest somewhere else and I do actually. I have like US $ 272,000 invested in bonds, but right now I'm loosing 10% and before that I was lucky in Stock market but never want to go back there (too risky). Right now I'm happy only with SA Comics! EDIT: I'm sorry if it sounded as bragging, this is not my intention. Need I add thas only part of it is my money, the rest belongs to my wife, 2 stepsons and brother in-law.
  10. Sorry to butt in, 2 years late! But I'm right now in the same spot (looking to invest $5,000) and found this chat. In my opinion, you should have bought Hulk #181 for $3,600. Well, now it's going down (obviously will keep doing so until the pandemic is over). But it's a Big Book. Me on the other hand, I want to buy Avengers #1 but I still don't know when am I going to receive my money. the operation is going thru the court of law and then came the Covid-19 pandemic to spoil the timeline. Hopefuly, I'll get the money in a good moment for buyers.
  11. Ant-Man: "Honey!, keep that vail ready while I take this mucus sample" Ant-Man: "Dr. Doom!, You do know COVID-19 can live in metal surface for up to 5 days?" Dr. Doom: "Indeed Ant-Man, I might as well call myself, DR. DOOMED!"
  12. While I finish something I'm working on, I might as well post something I did in the past. 1984 portrait of my soon to be wife in color pencils.
  13. Unfortunatelly for me, I live in Perú and here the Quarantine is severe, so I only can buy what I get in a south american supermarket (no Ink or Fine brush). I'm working on something right now, already finished the pencilling but I'm going to have to make all the Inking with a fine pen (0.5)! Give me some more days to post it. . . . . . . Great artwork BTW!
  14. I feel right now, like we're living a moment in history that could well fit as a plot for a comic book, this Coronavirus outbreak I mean. But like I said before, Comic books made us what we are today, and by that I mean, we don't give up or give in. My goal right now is to go thru this pandemic without harm, on any one in my house and I suspect most of us in this community, God willing, will prevail. Same as you, after a long time, I'm new at this and want and there's a lot to learn, but I'm glad to experience again the thrill of collecting comics, but this time I'm not for the money, just the pleasure. Excelsior true believer!
  15. As a kid I was a huge Avengers fan and when I was 12 (back in 1972), I was always surfing thru the city of San Francisco, looking for new comic book stores or used books stores. One day I got off the twin peaks cable car tunnel (midway) and found a comic book store that had Avengers #1 on their window display (same as the Sports Almanac in "Back to The Future II"), I looked at the price: US $ 11.30 and went back home to save my allowance and earn enough money for the quest of getting it before someone else did. After a week, I went back with the enough amount of money, only to find out that the price was raised to US $ 11.80 and I had it! . . . . But the problem was, that it included my transport fee back home! I always tell my family this story, how I regreted all my life not to bargain for it, explaining at the store that by doing so, I couldn't get back home. I probably would have made some kind of arrangement, but instead I bought with the money a #3, #7, #14 & #16 all of which I still possess except #7 that was shreded down by my pregnant cat, making a nest on the top of my closet where I kept my comics away from harm. I left United States that same year and lived in South America ever since, so I didn't have a chance to buy Av #1 ever again. But now that globalization has brought us E-Bay, Amazon & CGC. You can still collect comics from abroad. My goal right now is to get a low grade copy of Avengers #1 just to close an empty space in my life. My collection is all readers books so my copy of Avengers #3 is low grade as would be the #1 if I had it!
  16. I used to draw a lot back in the 70's & 80's. This one with a lot of influence of Jack Kirby/Jim Steranko, but my favorite penciller was John Buscema.
  17. 60 yo now. But really enjoyed collecting marvel comis for only 1 year (back in 1972-1973) then moved to South America. During that short period of time I collected Avengers 3,5,14,16-111 & Captain America 100-161. I really missed the fun of collecting, but now, thanks to E-Bay & Amazon and having Graded Comics I have the oportunity of getting back at it a second time (after 47 years!). This is going to be fun!
  18. Hi I'm Memo (nick for Guilermo) I'm from Peru, South America, but I lived in San Francisco a long time ago (around 50 years ago) when I was a kid. Back then I collected Avengers & Captain America which I still keep with me. I recently went to visit my brother in-law who lives in Los Angeles and sent my best 16 comics to grade @CGC. Reading Marvel comics made me the person I am today so now, after a 40+ year break, I'm going to start collecting silver age comics again. Something to leave behind for my son or maybe his son (if he ever has one).
