Bad writing. BAD BAD BAD.  
The writer was TRYING to demonstrate the awfulness of the situation.  This is not how it's done.  Instead, they made the whole story a joke.  Bad.

Hell, a better way of demonstrating how terrible the situation was would have been showing the contrast between their callousness and the destruction, which a good writer should be able to do

Superman's entire relationship with Jimmy Olsen - honestly, anything out of Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen is terrible, every single cover makes me laugh

Also, I'm so tired of every movie scene where they're either 1- running straight under the tree or spaceship falling when they could take a single step to the right and evade or 2- the vehicle crashes, and only the character that hasn't recited heartbreaking lines survives. 

Logical movies are rare treasures.

Clearly they won't -  they're even running parallel to that thing ...

There's no mechanism for him to stay vertical - in a second he's upside-down and throwing up. Also, how is there fire? I see no gas canister or any other fuel

The end is even stupider : Adam Warlock "hypnotizes" him and chokes him, despite Destroyer not needing to breathe

This looks like a landline phone, and that's NOT how anything works  ! Thant sentence makes no sense - the sound waves are converted into electric signals that are them converted back into sound waves at the receiver 

Also, I find this sentence immensely creepy : "Can I help it if my tastes are a little ... exotic? "

All the people being carried by Superman have fallen off and died; several of Batman’s passengers are badly burned 

and I guess they’ve finished solving crime if they can drive people on “flying caterpillars” at some random carnival?

It all makes sense : the clown is depressed, due to the killer clown craze he’s been getting less offers to perform at kids’ birthday parties (for good reasons : he’s secretly a mad killer who loves fish and mutilantes in the name of cod). He sees an invitation to a cruise party, and takes the job thinking it’ll double as a vacation - besides, it’s easy to get rid of bodies at sea. On site, he wants to attack the doctor without him noticing, but last minute a shark - the one that Aquaman checks later - jumps on board and stops him by biting his head. Panicking, the clown runs around and stuffs random string in his head to absorb the blood (that’s not really red hair) then, shocked, he faints. Aquaman appears and gives him his blood. He can’t actually control the sea, he’s just delusional because the doctor lied about the blood transfusion and keeps the blood to clone Aquaman. 
Today, the mad clown is still going on a murderous rampage, inexplicably using fish as a weapon....
