Dropped off at FedEx - Jan 30

Opened and SFG - Feb 8

This is my first high value submission that I am sending through my own account (used to send high value books through a presser), and I am really looking forward to seeing how it goes. :)

Nice man awesome! What books if you don’t mind me asking??

My girlfriend and I bought and submitted our book to CGC here at Megacon in Orlando this weekend. It was a bigger book so I did the Unlimited Value tier. It was actually already received and now it is in G/E/I. I’m just wondering what I can expect from here on out as I never really submit at this tier so I’m just curious.

    1 Book Unlimited Value

    Dropped at UPS 1/30

    Delivered/Scanned at CGC - 1/31

    SFG -2/1

    GEI - 2/2

    G/QC - 2/5

On day 5 of an estimated 3 day turnaround.  Starting to wonder what's going on.  $700+ to grade a book and it's just sitting there.

Oh wow what book was this?! Should I expect an upcharge for grading for my Giant Size Xmen 1?? They charged me like $120

I'm on day 4 of an Unlimited Value magazine submission. It's been in the Grading/Quality Control stage for over 24 hours now.  So it looks like there might be a hold up somewhere on the magazine side, potentially.

We’ll see. I’ll keep you updated and hope you do the same. Good luck!!

You can expect it to be pretty fast. When the grading is done the charge will hit your card, and it should be shipping shortly after that.

Congrats on the big book:) Be sure to share some pics in the This Week Back from CGC thread when you get it back.

Let’s go!!!! In Grading Quality Control now. Should I expect to see a grade today?!?!🤞🏼

    Bump

  8. Just bought this copy off of eBay for a good deal. Main problem is the stain. I plan to have it cleaned and pressed by my guy so we’ll see how it comes out after that. Just curious what you all think before that how it looks. Just keep in mind can’t take a picture of the inside of the front cover yet as it’s still on the way to me. Plan to update this post with interior pictures when I get it in a couple days.

These are all great shots, Jordan.  Much better than I expected, and very, very useful.  (thumbsu  (thumbsu

Your book has a heavily rusted bottom staple with extensive rust staining to both the cover and the interior pages.  Rust migration of this severity weakens the paper around the staple and often leads to a partially or completely detached cover.  Indeed, it look like the back cover is detached at the bottom staple.

The wavy lines of discoloration inside the red triangle/rectangle are known as tidelines.  Tidelines result from contact with free water.  They're called tidelines because they resemble what happens as the ocean water/wave recedes from the shore.

You book actually has a pretty nice structure, with relatively little handling wear.  However, the moisture and rust staining is quite significant and rather distracting.  Other defects include the heavily rusted bottom staple, the partially detached cover, and the oxidation halo visible on the top edge of the front cover and both inside covers.  All things considered, I think you're looking at a maximum condition grade of 3.0 GD/VG.

Thanks for working with me.  I hope this helps.  :foryou:

Awesome that helps a lot. Thank you!! Going to just skip pressing and send to CGC and hope for the best.

Interesting takes!  hm  The circled/boxed blemishes sure look like the results of contact with free water -- rust staining around/below the bottom staple, and ink transfer (from being "stuck" to the next book down in the pile) on the back cover.  So I'd ask the OP for additional data:

    • Is there rust on the bottom staple?
    • Does any of the interior paper (like the centerfold) have rust staining around the staple?
    • Are there any tidelines on the inside covers at the circled/boxed locations?

There is rust on the bottom staple. As far as rust staining on the interior I do see some rust staining throughout the book (as pictured here). I’m not sure what you meant about tide lines so I just took so more pictures of the inside covers. Let me know what you all think!

There is some rust on the bottom staple. How bad will that dock the grade??

This is one of my favorite books. I'm waiting to get mine back from CGC. A good C&P should make this book look nicer, but you're not going to get rid of the color breaking spine tics/creases, which are going to set your ceiling. Probably 7.5, but I would say 7.0±0.5. The one thing I'm not sure about is what looks like a square impression around GR's head. Like someone had the comic under a piece of paper they were drawing on. If that's what's there, it could press out, it could be listed as another defect

Thanks for the info. Yep this one’s definitely getting a clean and press from my guy.

  13. So. I’m not sure if it’s possible but I thought the best place to start would be here. I’m trying to find the 10.0 Silver Surfer Vol 3 #74. My Uncle is the biggest Surfer fan and he had a chance to buy it back in the day at a convention but he passed on it. He has regrets about it now and I’ve always wanted to find it for him for Christmas or his Birthday. I’d be willing to buy it for the right price. If anyone knows anything to do to find it or where to look I’d appreciate the help.
