What are the ebay user names of the 2 buyers so I can block them. Don't like dealing with picky people, especially the newton rings buyer.

ultra_tech_retro, ziazmere1, they both have 100 percent positive.  The second guy made a point of getting Ebay to refund his $20.00 shipping so I'm that too.

I'm really at a loss however.  Could a shaken case make a little piece come off from the cover?  Or make a hidden defect visible?

If they knew how to switch books out undetectable they would probably being doing it with more expensive books. If you have a good memory or took good pics you can compare and see if it the same book. Most 9.8s have some spine tics or wear even if tiny and don't break color. Look at bindery tears fuzz. Inner well seal.

Well it's clear on the right side of the book in my first photo the edge was crisp and now there appears to be a  little piece missing.  I've compared the 2 photos.  I don't understand it.  But I've been trying to compare other smaller flaws so far with no conclusion.

  3. I recently had a copy of Thor 337 9.8 returned two times on Ebay from 2 different buyers.  The first buyer returned it because of newton rings and nothing else.

The second buyer pointed out all the flaws in the book and basically accused me of fraud, or to cover his bases, also shaken case syndrome.

I received the book back today and noticed that indeed there was a small little fleck of the cover that appeared to be missing when I compared it to my original photos.

So I have a mystery here:  The condition of the book does appear different than it was in the original photo.

It's made two round trip excursions so I haven't had the book with me the whole time.

I didn't really do a thorough inspection when I got it back the first time.

Is it possible one of my buyers did indeed, somehow switch books on me and put it in back in its holder?

Is shaken case syndrome something that could make a little fleck appear?

I'm really at a loss here and any help would be appreciated.

  4. Going through my comics to send out a new batch to CGC.  Certain issues of Star Wars seems to have some very odd prices in 9.8.

For example, the "fair market value" (according to GoCollect) of issue #25 is 9.8 is $625 while the 9.6 is valued at $46!

The "fair market value" of issue #26 is $675 in 9.8  and $34 for a 9.6!!

I have both of these and was considering having them graded.

Why are these so incredibly high priced in 9,8?

I've noticed some other very odd prices for other basically meaningless copies of Star Wars.

Block both buyers. The first one is not a serious CGC collector IMHO if they're refusing books with Newton rings. Those rings are here to stay. The second buyer may have been fishing for a 9.8 at 9.2 prices and hoping for money back.

And start taking 14 day returns and making sure the buyer pays return shipping.

Good idea.  Thanks.  I don't know what the second buyer wanted?  He accused me of being dishonest, doctoring my photos and, in some magical way I guess, of putting a faulty comic into a CGC 9.8 holder?

  6. So I've been selling CGC books on Ebay for a litttle while with no problem.

Then I sold Thor #337 9.8 and my buyer wanted a return because it has "newton rings."

I clearly stated no returns but decided to let him return it anyway.

I put the book back on and sold it on Buy It Now for $500.  This new buyer receives it and immediately wants a return even though I stated no returns.  HIs complaint is not about Newton Rings (doesn't even mention the Newton Rings)  but is about the minor imperfections that gave it its 9.8 grade.  He called me a liar and told me there is NO way it's a 9.8, maybe a 9.2 he said.

Again, being fairly new on Ebay and not wanting negative feedback I approved the return request.

    Aaargh!!

    Is this just normal?

    What does one do?

    Advice?

    Thanks!
