If you look at the sports and music autograph markets it was the "flippers" that ruined it for the true fans.  Star players and musicians got tired of being hounded by middle-aged guys who had suitcases full of items they wanted to be signed.  Try getting Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Chipper Jones, and Barry Bonds to sign something for you.  They turn fans down all the time.  They got tired of "flippers" making money off their autographs.  Now you have to either purchase an item off their websites, buy a backstage experience, go the sports memorabilia route, or purchase an item through a charity to get a signature.

History is repeating itself in our niche of the collecting world.

Of the names you listed, Chipper Jones has always been more than accommodating when interacting with fans.  I've witnessed him signing multiple times for everyone around him.   I always hated the Braves and especially him until I saw how friendly he is with the fans.

Jordan,, Bonds and Tiger, on the other hand....

  3. When the book comes out, this one will heat up. Its a turner variant cover, it'll never be worth less than what you can get it for now. If you are looking for a quick flip it may not be worth getting , but given time its sure to go up.

I think you're right Astoria. I'm not a speculator/flipper. I collect for the love of it, the hunt. The art and stories....

I purchased a set and one color...My wife the same....Personally I think the art is awesome on this one.

Just wondering if Aspen will have a Turner Harley Q variant and an All-Star Batman one as well...Hope so!

I am not sure about the All Star Batman but a Turner Harley Quinn is in the works. I believe it will be released in August, so the Pre Sale should be in July sometime.

  4. I believe you should stand behind what you say you are going to do. If you commit to buy something and pay for it. You need to keep it unless there is some defect or damage with the item. Otherwise, why go through the effort to purchase it in the first place?

If you don't mind sharing your eBay ID, I will be sure not to do business with you in the future.

  5. I did in fact contact Heritage via email Sunday evening ( my particular situation is summarized about 10 pages back) and got a call from the person that handles consignments on Monday. He said they did review my purchase and that the bid beneath me and the winning bid (which ended up being vacated) were from bidders he was familiar with and that he considered legitimate.

For what it's worth, he did say he was familiar with these threads and with the situation and would be reviewing all of the art consigned by Romitaman.

As for what that means...people will have opinions on that. They very well could be doing that. I suppose it's possible that it's just spin and they are hoping this goes away quickly. It would be interesting to hear from other folks that feel they've been affected and what communication they have with Heritage.

Did Heritage offer any reason why the "winning bid" by a bidder that is familiar to them did not follow through. I would think a familiar name would not back out of a deal. Are there any repercussions from not paying for an item you win? I know if that happened around my way...the person would no longer be allowed to participate in future auctions.

  6. I am curious.

Why aren't all the haters piling on the OP about how he ripped off the estate by only paying 10% or less of the real value?

If Mile High Chuck had done this he would be castigated, with many wanting to castrate him as well.

BTW my personal opinion is that neither party did anything wrong. Perhaps the Estate Sales people really messed up, but that is between the family and them.

Only time I was at an Estate sale, absolutely nothing was marked. Had I known how inexpensive thing were I might have bought more

Many estate sales are managed by a professional company. At what point do we become responsible for a company if they price it to low

You don't. You pay the price as marked. The estate company works solely for the seller and it is their job to get the best price for their client. They do not have any obligation to you as the buyer. I have certainly bought items at an estate sale that I paid too much for--that is not their fault but mine.

    I'm sorry you paid $350 for a raw 6.0 IM 55.

Yeah, they describe it as "Higher grade"

I'd return it as item not as described as soon as that bad boy arrives and chalk this whole thing up as a lesson learned.

    This. (thumbs u

How can you return it as item not described if it has no restoration? If it does have resto the a return seems reasonable.

They coined it as Higher grade, what's that? 7.5-10

This is a Mid grade book.

    Higher than what?

  8. Check out warrelics.eu/forum, these guys are hardcore battlefield archeologists. You would be shocked at what is still laying around, 60, 70, 80 years later. These are mostly European/Eastern European archeologists who search places like Stalingrad, Kursk, the Courland Pocket for relics from the Second World War. More often than not they find lots of unexploded ordinance, rusted weapons laying on the ground and the remains of soldiers.

I'm not pimping their site, it's just something I find interesting.

Huge difference between archaeologists and relic hunters.
