  1. Yeah, that back cover is pretty sweet - I was luckily able to grab both 46 and 47 recently in a really nice grade for about $1 over cover.
  2. I'm hoping 46 heats up more too - 47 has the first Space Usagi story, but 46 has a Space Usagi "prototype" spread:
  3. You should look at their ASM 300 values - they've been undervalued for weeks, then had a slight bump across all grades yesterday, and now it's been downgraded again... I did notice the used to show stuff currently for sale on eBay and it looks like that stopped working...
  4. 46 has the first Space Usagi as a "prototype" - it's like a character file spread thing, like the DC Who's Who kind of. 47 has the first Space Usagi story as a back-up story, where Usagi meets Space Usagi.
  5. I think it was around 50-50 in the mid-80s, going down to about 30-70 (70% direct) and then 20-80 around the turn of the decade. My preference on copper books is toward the newsstands, because the closest "comic specialty shop" for me in the 80s was an hour and a half away (and I was still a few years away from being able to drive), so my only option was to buy off the rack at the local drug store and grocery store. So I like buying comics now that represent what I mostly would have had the chance to buy back then.
  6. Jealous, might be my favorite cover of all time. I've been looking for one I can afford - saw this one on his site but it was out of my range. The wrap on this is perfect! So many copies of this book are miswrapped with the white spine line that is often off-center. Congrats!
  7. Oh sorry, forgot what thread I was in... Seriously though, nice books! Cool to have those in newsstand, especially 400.
  8. Agreed 100% - I was into comics right around the time Jim Lee blew up with X-men, and I'm a huge Batman freak too and love his work on the Hush series. His stuff will always hold a special place for me - I just picked up his Wolverine 27 cover I mentioned a few pages back. I do agree with you on the X-Men stuff too - I also picked up X-Men 234 and 251 recently, two amazing Silvestri Wolverine covers - I'm a bit of a Wolverine freak as well. But speaking of Paul Smith, even though I never got too far into following X-Men back then, I also picked up what might be one of my favorite X-men covers ever - 168. I don't know what it is about this book, but I could stare at the cover all day. It's arguably simplistic compared to the art we have today with virgin variants and digital art and whatnot, but there's just something about this art...
  9. Sure! When I first started looking, GoCollect had the 8.5 listed at a FMV of $325, but by the time I was actively ready to buy, they had upgraded that to an FMV of $350. I saw this one listed on Sept. 15 for one of those auctions where it's either bid or make an offer (no BIN price), with a starting price of $345. I made an offer at starting price, and the next morning the seller countered with $380, and I bought it. At the time, I figured it was a good deal at only about 8% above FMV, because other copies were selling for huge premium percentages over FMV. GoGollect has since upgraded the FMV on an 8.5 to $400, and copies are regularly selling above that still, in the $440-$495 range for an 8.5. I liked that this one was a newsstand too. For what it's worth, I posted this in the "ASM 300 Heating Up" thread the other day: The FMVs have been updated a bit since I posted that, but basically all copies are still selling at huge % premiums over the now-current GoCollect FMV. Interesting to note that their FMV on a 9.6 went from $750 to now $975 in one week, and 9.6 copies continue to sell at right around $1,200.
  10. X-Men #1 - 13-year-old me sure loved this, and those Marvel Swimsuit Editions...
  11. Celebrating some nice comics wins the past week (including my first copy of ASM 300!), and at the same time, commiserating over a rough day of work...
  12. Bummer, sorry man - at least you didn't have to guess and hope it wasn't restored. I think if you're patient and keep up the hunt, the right copy will find you. And that's my moment of zen for the day...
  13. Oh yeah, those were sold listings - I always only look at sold listings for comps. Active listings can be useful to kind of gauge where interest might be in a book - if a lot of active listings are around the same asking price or bid level, you can get some decent ideas, but the sales paint a much better picture.
  14. How far under? Not a lot of raw comps on eBay, but here's one that sold at a best offer price of $2,350: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HULK-181-1ST-FULL-APPEARANCE-OF-WOLVERINE-MVS-INTACT-HI-GRADE-9-0-R-STUNNING/133515235627?hash=item1f1620d12b:g:s-MAAOSw-mNfWQyH And another with a winning bid of $2,125: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Incredible-Hulk-181-Vol-1-Near-Perfect-High-Grade-1st-Wolverine-w-Marvel-Stamp/401608994695?hash=item5d81c2ef87:g:PjwAAOSwAI9bsTOg They look like decent ones too - like I said, hard to tell 100% with the pics you have. I'm not suggesting you jump at it or anything, there are far more qualified people on here than I who can tell you a lot more about this book (I don't own one) - but just trying to help with some basic comps/research.
  15. Ha, wow, she does! Is it sad that I had to hold my own hand at that exact angle just to confirm it to myself?
  16. A little tough to tell from those pics, but it looks really high-grade. Is the asking price too good to be true?
  17. Wow, that's a great list! Mine are recent since I just got back into collecting in the last couple of months - found: Superman 75 newsstand (not high-value but I like that it's newsstand copy, high grade too) Shadow of the Bat 1 in a sealed polybag with some other cool stuff like a pop-up Arkham Asylum, some posters, etc. Thought it was neat for a buck. Two copies of ASM 361 and one copy of 362 - all 2nd prints - found all three in a $2 box at an antique fair. They're all about an 8.0-8.5
  18. My good friend is listing a bunch of old G.I. Joes and other assorted toys - he says he plans to add Transformers and Star Wars figures as well. Good guy, buy with confidence - here's his listings: https://www.ebay.com/sch/davcotey/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from= He also has not one, but two different tea sets. I made sure to bust his chops about those.
