  1. Just getting back into collecting - as a kid I would buy comics and read them until they fell apart basically. I have a list of 40-50 "personal keys" if that makes sense: comics I had and loved as a kid that I now want to have in a decent condition to keep and display. I know it's probably cliche, but based on when I was really active into going to comic shops and buying, my tops on that list are the Year One run, DKR and Killing Joke. I just got my first-ever graded comic today, and I'm hooked - it's gorgeous. I know it's not a 9.8, but I'm looking for a mix of "decent enough" plus affordable, and I'm pretty stoked!
  2. I can't tell - there seems to be a stripe pattern to it that seems almost too uniform to be rub, but on the other hand it was sitting loose in a bin with a bunch of other comics, so who knows how long it's been toted from place to place, shifting around... Either way I'm guessing something like that knocks the grade down quite a bit?
  3. Posted in another thread that I found 2 copies of ASM 361 and one ASM 362 in a $2 loose comic bin at an antique show this weekend - completely loose, no bags or boards. Unfortunately they are second printings, but it seems like they're still in demand (at least 361). I asked in my 361 post about CGC grading since I'm new to this - I assume there's no reason to have something like this CGC graded in this condition, given it's a second print, correct? I put a pic to start of all 3 side-by-side as a reference. This is the 362 copy obviously.
  4. Hi, I found 2 copies of ASM 361 and one ASM 362 in a $2 loose comic bin at an antique show this weekend - completely loose, no bags or boards. Unfortunately they are second printings, but it seems like they're still in demand (at least 361). Per the board rules of one issue per thread, I'll just post one of the copies in this thread (but I will put a pic to start of all 3 side-by-side as a reference). I'll probably post the other two another time. This copy scan is the 361 on your right in the photo. I'm pretty new to the CGC stuff - bought and read a lot of comics in my lifetime but read most of them to pieces. Is this the type of issue, depending on grade, that you would consider getting CGC graded? Or is it not worth it for something like a second print in what's probably a lower grade? Thanks in advance.
  5. Thanks - I'll definitely take a scan of them and ask for a grade! Yeah, for $2 a pop I figured I couldn't really lose, and even if they are too low-grade to do anything with, it's still a cool book for that price...
  6. I know they're second printings, but I pulled these out of a $2 comics bin at an antique sale yesterday - $6 total cost. Not sure on grade or if they're something that's worth slabbing - probably not? I'm new to the whole CGC thing to be honest:
  7. Hi all, Jesse here - new to CGC, but I used to "collect" comics as a kid in the 80s and 90s. I put it in quotes because I just bought a lot comics to read back then, so I don't have some awesome collection sitting anywhere (although I do have a bin somewhere I should find and look through, but I'm sure the storage was horrendous). I recently got the bug to start collecting for real, and I made a list of my own personal key issues that I want to own - some are true keys and some are just key to me because I remember having them as a kid - like DC Special Series 21 for example - whoever can guess why I like and want that particular book wins the blue ribbon. I started in comics as a little kid by reading my dad and grandpa's old books with half the top covers cut off that I found in a box (apparently stores used to be able to cut the top half of the covers off to send back to the distributor as proof of unsold comics somehow? But then they'd just sell the cut-up comic at a discount...). I'm a huge Batman fanboy, and my favorite artists are Neal Adams and George Perez, but I'm a sucker for Frank Miller and Jim Lee too. I just bought my first-ever CGC graded comic yesterday - had to start with good old Batman 404 - got it in a 9.4. I don't have a huge budget to collect, and since I'm not trying to resell, I'm looking to find the sweet spot of getting issues I want in a decent grade without breaking the bank. My reasoning is they'll hopefully hold their value a little down the road when I pass them on to my kids, but they also look decent enough now when I show them off. But it's more important to me to get an affordable issue of something I really want to own even if it's a lower grade than it is to chase 9.8s all day (plus I can't afford that!). Looking forward to learning a lot on these forums!
