  1. Yeah, the run collectors like us are the ones getting the shaft a little. The landmines in our want lists are getting bigger. Tomb or Dracula, for instance, looks like a cool series to collect, but I'm not even gonna start with that whale in there.
  2. Legion of Super-Heroes (1984) 30-39, plus the crossover issues for the Superboy story, Superman 8 and Action 591. 37 and 38, I think, are the ONLY issues of that title that cost any money to speak of, but if I recall correctly I did luck out and find them both in dollar bins or close to it. Plus Marvel Team-Up 132, and Weird War Tales 5, just in from Superworld (as well as a few other books you'll see in the next installment). Up to 34.
  3. This book hooked me in 1982 and I bought it off the stands. Still have it. Great work by Miller.
  4. All fantastic books, but I am MOST impressed by that B&B run. That's beautiful to see all those together. Congratulations. Only one of those I have is the 12 and I've toyed with the idea in the past of collecting the entire 1-200 run.
  5. Ah, off the top of my head without digging out the box in the next room, let me see... 158-160 are on the way. I have 167, 171-174, and 180-184. And 191, I think. Missing all the others for now. I also have 128-157 and am slowly working my way back. One reason I'm going for Daredevil is, it's one of the mainstream Marvel titles where I don't already go deep into the Silver Age, and as opposed to ASM or Hulk, fewer big keys in the way to make it unaffordable. I actually scored a 131 in a lot on eBay a year or two ago - 131-157 for $75! The 131 isn't high grade but not a rag either. Thanks for asking!
  6. Those were actually the first issues I bought back then. I thought it was cool that he was fighting the Kingpin and that cover on 171 just drew me in. I bought some sporadically after that. I was 9, on a 9-year-old's budget, and probably not ready to appreciate the...grit in Miller's stories. I'm gonna read them all together when I finally finish the run. (I have 158-160 en route from Superworld, actually.) Look forward to your thoughts on the others.
  7. Good morning! Today's update is - Legion (1984) up to 29, and Marvel Team Up 130. Even 20. I am actually collecting the Miller DD run as we speak. I don't have a 168, unfortunately, and may want to wait for a price correction there, if that ever happens. (Or a good deal.). I bought a few off the stands here and there. I'm enjoying reading your thoughts on it.
  8. Legion (1984) 17-22, and randomly, Weird War Tales 25 and Marvel Team-Up 129 The MTU story was really good. DeMatteis usually delivers a fun story and, like Claremont, gives you your money's worth. Legion is always good, but I feel like I'm constantly waiting for the magic of 1983 back. I didn't buy a lot of this run off the stands - I would have, but I didn't have an easy time getting to somewhere that sold the direct-only issues. It was somewhere in the 30s that I was able to get back on the train. I've since collected the run and this is my first time reading it front to back. Up to 12.
  9. OK, I've got Legion (1984 Baxter) 14-16 down now. 5 new Legionnaires and if memory serves, this is where the title starts picking up a little steam again. 4 total for the year.
  10. This is a good topic. There were some uninspiring later issues of Marvel Two-In-One to slog through, but at least they were cheap.
  11. I'm in. I'm doing a Legion of Super Heroes read, can confirm I've read #13 (1984 Baxter series) in 2021 so far. I'm a big fan of the Levitz / Giffen Legion (which I'm a bit past now). 284-305 is probably a top 10 all-time run for me. I will probably stop before 5YL. I do have that whole run, but I don't know if I want bleak right now. I might change my mind when I get there. So I'm at 1.
  12. That is SO cool. Thanks for sharing. And even better than ASM 129 for less than 50 cents - no movie hype books!
  13. This made my day! So weird - but cool - to see guys flipping through boxes of 'moderns' from the late 1960s. Makes me want to find that place, frozen in time. Or, recreate it. Maybe that's what this collecting is all about.
  14. Yeah, you're right. No argument. I'm actually working on an app to track the value of my collection, among other things...but I should definitely at least make a list of what's valuable. Everyone should. I don't have many real big books. I have a lot of long runs of mid-grade stuff. So if I got hit by a bus, honestly, the life insurance and other assets would swamp the value of the collection and my kids would be OK. Which I guess is how I justify being slow to catalog the collection for them. It would be better to make it easy for them, though, for sure.
  15. I plan to keep collecting and enjoying my collection until I die. I have about 7000 comics and still buying. I don't know whether my kids will be interested in inheriting them - maybe my son. Otherwise, as the time approaches, I'll make sure my heirs are well-informed of any value they may still have, and of liquidation options. The thrill is very much alive with me. Except the prices. Those don't thrill me. It's hard to get excited about paying $200 for a book you know could have been had for $50 not many years ago. I'm actually hoping to hit at least one more buyer's market with some disposable income.
  16. Batman 256 (6.0) $10 Invaders 28 (8.0) $3 Marvel Team-Up 51 (6.0) $2 Master of Kung Fu 68 (9.0) $2 Warlock 15 (7.0) $6 Wonder Woman 267 (7.0) $4 if all still available and if this post makes in through in time!
  17. I hope this happens and I can make it. I haven't been to one of these since the start of the year. Always a worthwhile show.
