  1. Anybody need a slabbed copy of Avengers #45? http://cgi.ebay.com/CGC-GRADED-1967-AVENGERS-45-MARVEL-COMIC_W0QQitemZ120293488735QQihZ002QQcategoryZ32726QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  2. Which books do you need to complete your Avengers run?
  3. Rushed for time would be my guess. The cover essentially consists of one figure, a large but not too detailed background, and a bunch of paste ups. Still a classic, though.
  4. I tend to agree. I wonder how many HG copies of early Avengers actually exist as compared to X-Men. I would guess that there's got to be more since X-Men wasn't a particularly popular title during it's original run. A quick look at the census for the first four issues of Avengers, X-Men, FF and Daredevil: For the first four issues, at least, the number of Avengers and X-men copies in very high grade are quite similar (except for the abundance of 9.0 and 9.2 copies of Avengers #4). There are FAR fewer high grade copies of the first four issue of FF - which is to be expected, since it was the first book out of the gate = lower sales = fewer high grade copies in 2008. But I'm surprised that the numbers for DD aren't really much different than Avengers and X-Men, considering it launched a good six months after X-Men and Avengers. There are quite a few more DD #1 in 9.0-9.4 grade, but the numbers don't hold up for issues 2-4. Very interesting. I didn't realize that FF #3 was that scarce, but it makes sense since it's the first issue with costumes. This seems like a classic example of hording. The numbers for Avengers #2, #4, and X-Men #1 (29 HG, w/ 2 9.8's vs. 23 for Avengers #1) lead me to believe that there are probably many more HG copies of Avengers #1 around. GPA's for Avengers #1 have been historically low as compared to other Marvel #1's and first issues (TOS #39, JIM #83). That's been changing the past 2-3 years, so maybe the higher GPA's will flush out some additional HG copies. Great research, Andrew. I'm going to have to look at the numbers beyond the first 4 and see if the trend continues.

  6. Getting there. Still missing 25 books (I think) in my 1-100 set, and I would like to upgrade another 5 or 6. It's a decent collection, but it pales next to sets like cheetah's. He's got two Avengers sets in the top 20: the #6 set AND the #17 set (with completely different copies in each set). Thanks, Drew. I do have a passion for the Avengers and hope to be the first to get a 1-250 set 100% complete. I think I'll have everything between 130 and 250 secured before Christmas. But issues between 1 and 30 seem to be non-existent in high grade anymore. I shudder to think what #1 and #4 in 9.4 would go for nowadays. Do you think that it's at least partially due to people hording books in anticipation of the movie?
  7. Nope. Worldwide. Stephen Ritter & Matt Nelson. They had a ton of graded books at WW Chicago. Not many Avengers, though, as I recall. Do you ever crack open any of the slabbed books that you buy?
  8. That's an easy one....... buy low, sell high. Dam*!! Now you tell me. A bit of self-deprecating humour gone awry. Or perhaps a bit of humour without the actual "humour" element. (As in, "man, am I a fool - here I was buying high and selling low".) Or, my attempt at humor gone awry.

  10. Very, very nice. Are these from pedigree.com?

  12. I'm sure that he'd love to write the screenplay for it. I don't think that I could sit through 2 hours of his ersatz Buffy the Vampire Slayer-ish dialog. ME: Man, I hate that Bendis dialogue thing. YOU: Bendis dialogue thing? ME: Yes. YOU: He has a thing? ME: He does. YOU: A dialogue thing? ME: Yes. A dialogue thing. YOU: I can't say I've noticed. ME: You wouldn't.
  13. I hope he doesn't have anything to do with the movie.
  14. And it's probably only going to get worse as more info about the movie is released. I have around 10-15 books left to upgrade and I'd ideally like to get them before the prices become too crazy.
  15. Nice one. Was this from an eBay auction a few weeks ago? Yes, I set a new GPA high. Well at least you got a very nice copy. It's going to be interesting to see how many of the Avengers in Clink's next auction will set new GPA highs. http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/search.asp?where=sell&title=avengers&ItemType=CB

  17. Probably send it off in the fall. I want to enjoy it in raw state for a few months! Consensus seems to be that it's a 3.5, which is what I thought, too. We'll see. It MIGHT come back as a 3.0, but I'm going to remain optimistic. 3.5 sounds about right to me. I need to get my #1 graded sometime soon also. It has a bit more spine wear than yours, so I'll be thrilled if it gets a 3.0. Nah, why bother. Just sell it to me and find a higher grade copy. You will be much happier, trust me. An upgrade is in the plans, but finding one to upgrade to (without paying an arm and a leg for it) is proving to be difficult.

  19. That is a beautiful copy. Absolutely perfect. Nice pickup. Thanks. I've been looking for a nice copy of #18 for a long time. I was pretty lucky to find a raw copy in this condition.
  20. Thanks. Bob and Dale will both probably be in Baltimore in September.....
  21. A few recent pickups from WW Chicago.......... Three from Dale Roberts.... And three more from blazing Bob Storms.... Dale and Bob had a lot of great books and I could have easily bought a dozen more.
  22. I used to trade books with them a few years back, and as I recall you have to decide up front whether you want cash or credit. What would your total have been if you had chosen cash instead of credit? $100. He wants to pay me as if I had selected cash instead of credit, thus "convert" my credit to cash. I'm betting that they probably don't have a written policy for converting trades into cash. I would point this out to him and continue to negotiate.
