And as usual, this thread devolves quickly, but that's okay. With all the stuff that has happened this year, we all need and outlet.
So how about a story. I have a few to tell as this contest moves along. So with all the digging I did most of my life, I dug up tons of old bottles, jugs, and a few other things. Seen some interesting stuff, and some horrific things when you work in Chicago.
Anyway, the big pic is at 57th & Lake Shore Drive, right across the street from the Museum of Science and industry. You can see the sheeting on the side of the machine. We're about 40 from the lake so we had to keep the water and sand from coming in.
Two water main reroutes. The large pipe is a 48" and the other one is a "34. Getting ready to cut a hole in the sheeting. This company was good to work for. They knew what they were doing which takes a lot of pressure off the operators.
Anyway, we then had to jack the "36 under lake shore drive. Once on the other side, we had to remove and old existing main, and put the new one back in the same ditch. Lots of blob top bottles coming out with the sand. When I see things like this I always picture these guys back in the 40's & 50's who came before me when lots of this work was hand work.
Makes me wonder who drank out of those bottles and just tossed them back in the ditch for me to find decades later.
