I also stumbled on a CAF's user gallery that has some wonderful pictures of Caniff inking similiar sized boards. Thought I would share! Thanks again.

Typically, for Steve Canyon Sundays, Caniff rendered the original art in pen and ink, in a horizontal, rather than vertical, format.  Once Caniff sent it to the syndicate, the original art would be photocopied, usually arranged in different formats (some papers ran it as a full page strip horizontally, some ran it as a full page strip vertically, some ran it in a half-page [or smaller] format which deleted some of the full-page panels) for layout and coloring purposes. 

What you have looks to be a vertical format photocopy/production page of the Sunday with partial hand-coloring (mounted on board).  It is unclear whether the mounting and coloring was done by a syndicate (or printer) colorist or by someone who later obtained the black and white photocopy.  The partial coloring of your page is similar to what colors were in the published Sunday as per the IDW Steve Canyon reprint volume 3, which reprinted strips from 1951-1952 (Sundays were reprinted in color).

P.S. You can tell it is a photocopy, and not an original Caniff Sunday, by the copyright indicia (sometimes called a "bug") at the bottom of the final panel.  Yours looks to be printed on the paper; on the original art, Caniff (or an assistant) would have pasted/glued a strip with this information directly onto the bottom of the final panel.

I was looking at some of the Sold OA on HA and noticed some of those pieces had handwritten lettering - "Let depth come one Sharp Glossy Print for Rescale..." and then that made sense. A production print rescale. Very neat!

Recent pick up. I really enjoy it but I'm not quite sure exactly what it is. It seems to be something that was created in-house although I'm no expert. Perhaps an experimental production piece for coloring? It's large (approx. 19" x 28"), and printed on a sturdy 1/4" hardboard panel. The print quality is excellent. Even under a loop it's very hard to tell it's a print; but the blacks are uniform across. Some of the coloring appears to have been applied by hand, some maybe a print. The white out over the bold date at the top makes me think it's produced directly from the original art.

Zooming in, I think the issue in the photo could be either of these two books. I can see the faint outline of the "Shrinking Superman" wording when I blow the image up: 

In my experience, bad resolution photos can make it seem that things on the cover are missing. I think it's possible that the price doesn't show, but is there. Ditto the circular logo above the 'S' of the title.

Or I could be talking complete rubbish and there's another version out there waiting to be discovered....

Thanks for the thoughts. Here's the original image. It's also worth noting that he is either in California or Arizona here - It's around Christmas time; some year either before or after they took a trip across the border to Mexico, but this is his back patio based on the other photos in the collection. I also didn't see anything in the other 300+ photos that suggested UK or Australia vacations or connections, but that is speculation on my part.

Yes that's the UK / AU version that I mentioned in the original - but note how there is clearly no big "1" or "6D" price variation below the R in superman in the photo.

A successful marriage. I think a couple of you had the same thing in mind when the cover came up on eBay; but I'm happy to get it. Will stay in my keeper pile. Love that it's the same servicemen from the cover of Superman 12.

Hoping to solicit some information from the experts. I can't seem to find much about this title - I see that Baker may be credited for work in issue #9 and #1. Opinions on this?

Congrats on your purchase here and how much did that copy of Planet 33 cost you by the time it was all said and done?  

I didn't get the 33 I was just using that one for a good reference to demonstrate - I got a kick out of his placement too! Haha.

I got the #32 4.5 for $450 and 6.0 #37 for $550.

I got two of the Planets at a fair price. Missed 2-3 of them as well. It was a great collection. I liked watching his penmanship evolve as he got older.

Were airmail etiquettes a thing on the early Disney books? I am trying to understand if these stickers were the result of a subscription service through the mail system or whether they may have just been added on by the original owner at a young age. I can't seem to find any other examples.
