  1. ASM 3? Jeez I feel like a spring chicken now. As a kid I always had dreams of inventing a time machine to go back every month and buy like 5 copies of each book coming out. I believe that was common amongst young comic collectors. Tijuana Trash
  2. In the timeframe I was referring, GSX1 was around $20, X94 was twice that. I had gotten mine earlier at my first Con in ‘77
  3. I remember when GS X-men 1 & X94 started heating up around ‘78. FF1 was the most valuable SA Marvel key at the time, eclipsing AF15.
  4. My parents had bought me comics since I was about 4 (1971/72), Harvey’s and such. My first superhero comics were in ‘73 - ASM , FF, Captain Marvel were among the first. I remember ASM 125 being the first spidey I ever read. Started getting back issues in ‘76 at my first LCS visit (thanks Grandma! 🥰) I miss the days of going in an LCS with $20 and walking out with at least a short box full of books.
  5. This thread is dedicated to the Silver Age era of my favorite superhero, Captain Mar-Vell. Truth be told, I preferred the BA version of Captain Marvel, as that was the version I grew up reading. The first one I ever read was #31. I knew absolutely nothing about his older ugly Kree uniform and silver hair until I started getting the back issues. I also wasn’t aware of the past title cancellations until one of the LCS owners (Apache Comics) gave me a pretty good history of them. After reading the entire title three times now, I can say with certainty that the Silver Age portion was not my favorite. I think they could have done better with the character. I’m glad they finally got rid of the Walter Lawson angle. Carol Danvers has come a long way as a character. After nearly a decade and two previous efforts, I have finally completed the SA portion of the title (#’s 1 - 21) in CGC 9.8. Note - I do not consider MSH 12 & 13 as part of the actual CM title, though they are his first two appearances. I will post my copies regardless 🙂 This thread focuses on the MSH 12 & 13, 1-21 of the CM title. Other SA appearances in the Silver Age includes Sub- Mariner 30 and Avengers 72. The CM title was cancelled a couple months before Conan 1 came out. It restarted near the end of ‘72. I will be starting a Part Two thread in the BA section soon for #’s 22-62 Thanks for looking 🙂
  6. Powell’s Books - Portland, OR - late 1975, maybe early 1976? Memory is fading. I was riding with my Grandma to go to Fred Meyers, and I saw the book store with a sign that said comics. I asked my Grandma if we could stop and she said okay. My first time seeing back issues! 🤯 I was excited! I was overwhelmed! And forever hooked! They had each title separated in their own boxes on shelves behind the counter. You had to tell them which box you wanted to go though, and they would pull the box down for you. One at a time. I remember the guy behind the counter was trying to quickly teach me, an exuberant 8 year old, how to properly hold the books without damaging them. At first I had no clue what he was talking about, nor why it mattered. I was there about an hour. My Grandma was pretty patient with me - she went browsing through the book section - even bought a few paperback western novels for my Grandpa. She finally said it was time to go. I ended up with about 40 comics. I remember the first thing I noticed when I walked in the shop was there was an ASM 6 & FF 12 hanging over the entry way into the used book section. Grandma bought me the ASM 6 that day 😁 I never got that copy of the FF12. It became a landmark of sorts to me. Sort of like seeing a familiar face when you walk through the door. I remember over the years it was always still displayed there whenever I went, and actually noticed the color fade over time. I ended up getting my copy of FF12 at Armchair Books. I don’t think any of the comic shops I used to go to in Portland are still open 🥺

  9. WTB Captain Marvel 22 & 28 in CGC 9.8 Willing to pay 4lbs of horse feathers 😁 xoxo
  10. That’s why I don’t list what I’m willing to pay. They want you to post what you’re willing to pay and use that as the baseline. When I go to show and see a book I want, and ask the seller how much, I am given an asking price. I have NEVER been asked how much I am WILLING to pay.
  11. Sigh…someone is always trying to identify and fix a problem that simply isn’t there. Just because someone posts a WTB in a way you don’t approve of, doesn’t mean it’s wrong. I agree people should post their desired grade ranges, but disagree they need to post what they will pay. Why is that necessary? It’s none of anyone’s business what someone is WILLING to pay. If you have a book someone needs, offer it at the price you want to sell it for. It will either sell at your price, or you will receive a counter offer which you can accept or reject. When I list WTB, I generally don’t list a price. I list the grade I want, and leave the asking price up to the seller. I do this because I don’t want my asking price to be unnecessarily too low (or high). 99% of the time when I am presented with a book I need, I have bought at the sellers offer without asking for a discount.
