Interesting point. Not like the newsprint of old. Baxter and mondo paper are not as prone to yellowing. What is the paper used in today's books and if it's completely inked, why even bother to denote a page quality?

    That's what I saying 😂 I don't get it

    Modern is 1975 to present

What you're talking about "books fully covered in ink" would only include a small fraction of books that are considered Modern Age as that's a very recent thing.

That should be changed as well. The 'modern age' is basically half of all comics ever. Modern as in 1990+ when basically every square inch of the interior pages are covered with ink without the ability to see the actually paper.

  3. I mainly deal with Golden, Silver and Bronze age books but I dipped my toes into modern books. I realized 95% of all the books printed are fully covered in ink but almost all have a small black area around the art. How could CGC give it white pages if the books pages are covered in every possible area with Ink. Would it not be impossible to give it anything besides white pages? Would it not make more sense to give it to grade on the pages color and other attributes. At my LCS they have several new books (Obviously) but some have better interior colors then others in terms of color saturation.

    Like: (Perfect=Color Saturation)

Full Coverage (for perfect pages with no defects)

Partial Coverage (near perfect pages with no defects

Faded Coverage (faded pages with no defects)

To be fair most books I have seen have little to no defects within the interior pages unless they are graded lower obviously. Just something that crosses my mind.

For anyone interested,  there is a new exhibition devoted to the life and art of Stan Goldberg in Long Island,  NY running now through May 20th at the Suffolk County Historical Society Museum.  A nice write up of it in today's local newspaper including the story of Goldberg convincing Stan Lee to make the Hulk green instead of gray.

Thank you that is pretty cool! I am definitely going to go!

  5. Okay I'll get right into it. I have a CBCS 6.5 Marvel Mystery Comics #34. I would like to get it crossover graded but some people at my LCS say that it is almost impossible to get the same grade. The owner said that they crack it out if they disagree with the grade  even if you do not wish to proceed.

Anyone on here have first hand knowledge?

And what are they doing about it?

Basically a polite F you. I was told it would be safe and that it is very very rare basically and that "Things happens". I am no longer using CGC or CCS for anything else again. They are 2 out of 4 when it comes to book damage.

    "Good afternoon,

Damage is always a possibility due to the interactive nature of pressing. This usually happens to comic books in fragile condition, which includes books that are tanned or brittle, spines exhibiting splits, loose paper on the staples, or pieces that are barely attached. To mitigate the possibility of damage, it is recommended that each book is examined for these defects prior to submission. When in doubt, the CCS screening service should be utilized to assess safety.

Because it is impossible to ensure that damage will not occur, CCS will not be held liable for split spines, covers or pages detached from staples, or detached pieces.  This is stated in the terms and conditions you agree to when completing your order form:"13. NCS and CCS do not provide grade protection or any type of guarantee for collectibles submitted to them. Due to the fragile nature of collectibles, Customer acknowledges that techniques used by CCS for pressing; restoration, removal, or conservation Services may result in new defects or damage to the collectible, including; but not limited to, spine splits popped staples, paper pieces chipping off, creases, and stains Customer acknowledges that the conservation Services provided by NCS or CCS with respect to a submitted collectible may result in a lower grade or no grade subsequently being assigned to such collectible by a grading company. BY SUBMITTING A COLLECTIBLE TO NCS OR CCS CUSTOMER WAIVES ANY RIGHT TO ASSERT ANY FORM OF LEGAL CLAIM AGAINST RELEASEES WITH RESPECT TO A LOWER GRADE OR NO GRADE SUBSEQUENTLY BEING ASSIGNED TO SUCH COLLECTIBLE BY A GRADING COMPANY, UNLESS CAUSED SOLELY BY THE GROSS NEGLIGENCE OR WILLFUL MISCONDUCT OF NCS OR CCS

Have you discussed this with CGC?  If you need my help with this, let me know.

I have but they told me that 'these things happen and that CCS is not at fault' and it left a really bad taste in my mouth. So far 2 out of 4  books sent out (All Golden Age mine you have gotten destroyed or damaged). I am debating on just stop sending them books.

I've received several books back recently that have had very noticeable scratches and scuffs on the face of the slabs. Even worse, one of my most prized comics came back slabbed in a magazine tray and the book was shoved to one side of the slab (way off center - see photo). That's the equivalent of framing a piece of art with an uneven or off center border (looks horrible). Does anyone at CGC look at the books before they are sent to customers? There appears to be no QC process. CGC, please get it together - you're losing credibility as the most trusted grader of high value comics very rapidly.

Hello, Well I had a copy of Black Terror #3 CGC 5.0 that was put into a slab rather harshly and done poorly which made it get crimped over time..... It is now a CGC 4.0. The case they used was damaging the book so them fixing the case issue they detached the cover and split the spine which made it drop a whole grade point. Well done CGC and CCS.

  10. I sent a book to get regarded and pressed from CCS (my first time ever using them and first time using Express Tier). I wrote EX all over the box as instructed. I shipped the book Monday of last week and it arrived Thursday. Friday through the CGC website it said that it was safely delivered but the submission form is not showing as though it has been delivered as usual. (It has been over a year since I submitted a book so maybe it changed?) I emailed CGC yesterday morning and have not received an email back and I am going to email them Friday if nothing changes. Does CGC update the submission form if it is going through CCS or do they only update it when the book is in their hands?

    Thank you.
