  1. my impression was that the money sort of gets kept in escrow and that spencer/george does not start until payment is received................ and that the money gets held and only released if you are satisfied with the piece. i know he didn't start my commission until after he was paid.

  2. Hi folks,

An unexpected bill has come up and I am making this available for sale- Avengers 99 page 18 by Barry Windsor Smith and Tom Sutton. The two Olympians Kratos and Bia prepare to drag an amnesia-stricken Hercules back to Olympus over a fallen Cap and Iron Man and Hawkeye, Rick Jones and the Scarlet Witch do their best to stop them.  This one is 11K. I will take papal and will split the fees and the shipping with the buyer. There  is a small piece missing, very top center (as shown in the scan), as I purchased it from Mike Burkey but this does NOT affect the art........ Signed "Barry Smith". This one is 11K.  PM me thru here or my CAF gallery.

Right.  What I'm saying is that they would have gone higher in auctions where only one MCP page was available.

I don't feel that those 2 pages were strong enough to do (significantly) better even if they were in an auction alone. good pages, but not very good or great. i think they went for around market- no real bargain to be had there.

  4. It was a year of highs and lows for me but art-wise, I did okay. Here are my five- very hard to choose just 5, let me tell you!

1- Avengers 100 page 2- (Barry Windsor Smith):   This was a grail book for me as a kid- back in the 1980s, it was a bit more difficult getting back issues where i lived.  I'm glad my Aunt was finally able to track it down for me!  The first 6 pages of this book are sheer magic as they are all BWS.

2- Avengers 195 cover (George Perez and  Dan Green):  From the Task Master Trilogy and with more ants a can of Raid can handle,  here Ant Man and Yellow Jacket are off to save the Wasp. Typical insane Perez detail.

3- Dr Strange 1 page 2 (Frank Brunner and Giordano):  From the 1st book my brother ever bought. What a great time to start. After the rather stressful and trippy Siseneg  storyline, Clea attempts to provide some levity for a very serious Doc.  Giordano's inks look lovely on Brunner's pencils.

4- New Teen Titans 4 pages 2 + 3 DPS  (George Perez and Romeo Tanghal)-  This was the book that made me decide to give DC a change and the Teen Titans was the first DC title added to my pull list at my local comics shop.  I followed Perez over from Marvel and never looked back and was able to enjoy many, many fine stories involving the DC stable of characters.

    5. JLA/Avengers page 5 unpublished  (George Perez pencils):  From the infamous unpublished book- Ah, what might have been. I enjoyed the book that was eventually published some 20 years later but I would have loved to have seen this as it was intended. My first page from this book with Avengers on it!

I don't remember the Profiles auction you mention.  Do you remember comparable examples from that you could mention?
