It's a very strong cyan colour. Almost certainly from the print process. Happens with other colours too, there was a magenta blob we had some fun with recently. Can't recall the exact location of that thread but similar situation. Don't stress it. Counts as an artifact and won't affect grade.

That's a relief. At first I thought someone dropped ink on it but it doesn't bleed through to the other side at all or look like it had been "wet" in any way so I was super confused.

  2. I just received a pristine copy of Green Lantern #49 from a seller on eBay and opened the first page to inspect the book and noticed what looked to be blue splotches of paint on the page. The seller claims the book was always like this but I've never seen something like this from the manufacturer. It's only on the first page and doesn't bleed through to the following pages.

Pretty bummed as the book looks to be a 9.8 otherwise.

    Thoughts?

I'm curious, from a close up perspective does it look like it got folded back during slabbing or is it folded like it would with the weight of a heat press?

    I'd assume slabbing, but nowadays...

It's hard to say 100% but looking close up, my immediate thought was that it was pressed into it because it's very flat. Either way, damage was done to the book while in CGC's care.

They are giving you the ole boiler plate answer..they could have at least done their homework and checked the grader notes before answering you ..CGC is doing a terrible job training their customer service people

but I would say the grade was correct, from the grader notes...you can even see the small crease in the bottom right corner in your pre picture...but unfortunately, it will have a large crease there now

Yeah, a grade is a grade, my issue is the encapsulation has now put a very large crease in the cover. Not only is it visually bad to display, but the grade will have dropped as well.

  5. I submitted my Daredevil #158 to the recent Frank Miller signing. When I got the book back I was surprised to see it came back a 7.5, but then I looked at it and was shocked to see the bottom right corner was folded up and pressed. The book was not in that condition when it was sent in for pressing, signing and grading. I have both photo and video evidence of the before and CGC just emailed me back saying it could have happened in transit and that graders base the grade on the book they receive. Totally understand that, but the book was pressed and signed before grading. Also, shipping damage wouldn't fold only the corner of the cover up, it would have bent the whole book. I think they are just trying to get out of responsibility. Thoughts?

Attached is the scan of the book I sent in and the book now in the case.
