  1. I haven't posted in this thread in a few years! This may take a while ...
  2. I'm glad I'm workin' that era right now! I'd have been bumped out early on.
  3. The question of where to draw the line is much like the hobby itself .... everyone has different ideas of what constitutes a "keeper" for their collection. I've seen quite a few comics side by side where the higher numerical grade comic doesn't have the color strike, isn't as centered and doesn't have the overall eye appeal of the copy with a lower technical grade. Some would buy the comic more visually appealing to them, others would buy the higher graded copy ... and this is my favorite part: both of them are right!!! That's one beautiful thing about this hobby: there are SO many ways to enjoy it!!! Pedigrees, now that a topic I've enjoyed for many years!!! The stories behind the comics, who originally owned them, the distinctive markings on them and how they were saved from the trash heap and thank GOD from the comic burnings of the 50s!!! I'm such a geek for books with cool stories and unifying markings, they don't even have to be recognized pedigrees for me to dig them big time!!! For example, the book below which I'm sure you've seen a number of times, as I only have a couple of Timelys with the stamp, but I really dig this store stamp!!! The book shop is long gone, but the fact that these comics went thru there makes them just a little extra special to me!!! I wish I could find more ....
  4. Thanks Billy Boy! Well, your collection is insanely amazing! The issues you have below the 9.0 mark are just below it then, besides the 1 which as I recall is a pretty 7.0!
  5. @Math Teacher These are my earlier certified issues and as you can see, nothing fancy going on here, just random average copies. @Straw-Man has all but issue #1 in 9.0 or better, so yeah, that's WAY higher than anything I'm doing with this run.
  6. They both DO have some very nice books!! I do ok, but they've both got more high-grade comics from THIS run than I do, for sure!! I'm not really building this run in high-grade, just whatever grade I find at the right price. This is my highest grade earlier issue and my highest graded later issue (I haven't pursued the run much beyond mid 60s numbering, so far). For FF, I'm building an "average Joe" type of collection.
  7. Thanks, and you're correct, so many things factor into how paper ages. The guy who stored these away was way ahead of his time in storage techniques!
  8. I always meant to ask you Ricky, did you ever get to see many/any of the Church Timelys in person?
  9. I don't think we're in disagreement Cat. Of the collections mentioned, I'm much more familiar with Ricky's Timely horde. Since the mid 90s up until the mid 20-teens, we had what Billy dubbed The Timely Geek Club. It was Billy, me, Ricky & Russ and we'd meet yearly, rotating to a different members house each year, bringing our Golden Age to geek on. I never forget Billy's Twilight Marvel Comics #1 coming out of the Fortress and being handed to me! Likewise, I'll never forget paging thru Ricky's killer Larson and Frisco copies of the Mystic and Daring Mystery runs! I've had some high grade Timelys (some I sold to Ricky) but back then, Ricky's were the first high grade copies of the EARLY Timely titles that I'd ever seen. His Friscos and Larsons are some of my favorite books, hence my board name!
  10. You're very welcome! The effort you've put into building your Timely collection is VERY compliment worthy! It's just astounding that so many of these books exist in these grades, but to see them assembled in one collection ... it's mind blowing!
