marvel s.a. annuals/specials [and cousins]
Frisco Larson replied to Straw-Man's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Perhaps Billy will allow special dispensation for this last book, as it IS a unique cover to the run, but alas it's ALSO beyond the Silver Age cut-off. -

Frisco Larson replied to Straw-Man's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Since Spider-Man is my favorite character, Marvel Tales has always held a special meaning to me. It was there that I had my first Spidey comic! -

I actually have quite a few books with that same arrival date stamps and got most of them from the same source. I would guess that there was a fairly decent sized find oof 1958/1959 stamped La Prensa comics of several genres. I'm pretty sure I've posted most of mine earlier in this thread if you want to reference them for similarities. I don't have any specific concrete details about how and where these were found. I may be able to obtain some in the near future though, I'll keep you posted. -

Yes, this is my copy. I still own it. It's cool that you have one as well. It's not an easy book to find. -
Thanks pal 😊 I really dig the back up stories in those early hero books!

Thanks Lou! That's probably spread out over the last 6 months or so. I've actually been focusing on original art this year but still buy a lot of books. Running out of money ... -
60 years, WOW .... that's crazy!!! I SO love that period in comics!!! I've always enjoyed the time when we got superhero lead stories and a fun mix of usually sci-fi type back up stories to fill up the issue! A great blending of both worlds! The Strange Tales and Tales to Astonish runs seem particularly inexpensive in that time period. Here's something you might enjoy, I picked up this page of original art to Strange Tales #102 recently! It's a Gene Colan page, page #2 to the story "The Secret of the Hidden Planet" and I was THRILLED to be able to add it to my growing art collection!
