  1. Congratulations to Mississippi Mudcats for winning their 3rd Achievement in Collecting Award!!! That's a nice hat trick!!!
  2. Attached animated skulls to attached animated skull.
  3. Questionably inappropriate spear carrying character to questionably inappropriate spear carrying character.
  4. They're absolutely what drew me to that era of Marvel Comics!!! Of course, mostly Kirby and a few Ditko covers didn't hurt the situation either!
  5. Just curious @bc and any others for that matter, of the sub-genres contained within our PHM realm, do you have a favorite? It was the monsters that originally drew me in, but I find myself enjoying the sci-fi quite a bit, as well as the Egyptian/Mummy covers too!! There's a lot here: Aliens, robots, and I also enjoy that the ghost theme (as well as the occasional monster) migrated to the western line as well.
  6. Seriously rare comic with just 8 Universal copies (a lone 7.5 as highest, a lone .5 as lowest) and just 2 restored copies. Gill Fox cover looks reminiscent of Carl Burgos to me. VERY nice-looking copy for the grade!!! Well done capturing this rarity!!!
  7. This is the oldest item I currently have in a CGC holder. Most wouldn't consider it a comic book though. Regardless, I think it's cool and fun!!!
  8. Construction helmets to gladiator style space helmets.
  9. Subby battling dudes in diving gear to Subby battling dude in diving gear.
  10. I'm not sure why the "supposedly" is in there pal, as from December of 1957 to September of 1960, they only put out 8 titles per month. That's an awful long time to release that exact amount, no more, no less if there wasn't any reason for it. After that point, they were more sporadic about the number of titles per month, which I suspect came from asking for some flexibility from the distributor, but I have no way to substantiate that. However, it DOES make sense. What also makes sense to me is that Stan's memory about every minute detail was likely faulty. There's no way that he or anyone else could've predicted that any of that stuff would mean anything in the future! I see that they killed off World of Fantasy the same month they killed off Strange Worlds. I guess I never noticed that before. It would be a few years before they'd add Amazing Adventures to the roster, so yeah, you're probably right in that they likely did it to conform to the restriction. Interesting stuff of which we'll likely never know more than we already do about it. Oh, and just so it's clear, this isn't intended to be confrontational, I'm merely wondering why you're skeptical about the 8 titles per month when it's been said several times in interviews and such.
  11. Love it!!! See??? They should've kept this run going!!!
  12. Looks like I still need a #5, so here's my last issue ... #4.
  13. Looks like I let go of my copy of issue #2, so here's my #3. LOVE this cover!
  14. I've always thought this was a cool little run and wondered why it ended, you know, beyond the obvious conclusion that it may not have sold well. Any actual insight on the topic gang? What's not to love? Kirby back at the company, drawing cover duties! Ditko, Kirby, Powell & Heck on the inside! Seems like a home run to me!
  15. As far as the earliest certified pedigree comic, the Lost Valley catalog lists a Famous Funnies #1 graded CGC 4.0 and considering that there are only 5 traditionally recognized comics prior to that and none of them are in that catalog, I'd say that the Famous Funnies #1 Lost Valley is the earliest verified pedigree copy certified, maybe in existence.
  16. Some people may disagree and that's fine, but for the longest time, the 1st comic book has been recognized to be Funnies on Parade nn 1933. Currently, there are 14 universal and 5 restored copies listed in the CGC census (as of a few minutes ago). Quickly checking the Heritage archives and GPA, none of the graded copies they have info on show up as pedigrees. Checking the Larson & Lost Valley lists, both of those pedigrees do not list a copy of Funnies on Parade to be present. So, the recognized first standard comic book has many graded copies, none so far provable as a pedigree. The copy below isn't mine, it's just for reference.
  17. This is my earliest graded pedigree book. It's not a lot to hoot about, being that it's incomplete, but it IS a Cosmic Aeroplane pedigree copy, so it qualifies. As far as I know, this is the earliest Cosmic Aeroplane pedigree copy.
  18. Ah, Maria's in Chicago!!! Brings back such great memories!!! SO many "dinners after the show" quite a few of which we were joined by some of the boardies who still post here!!! Tankareeno will live on forever and still gets mentioned when Russ and I go out for tacos!
  19. I just keep forgetting which is usually considered as the first issue of the PHM... and I keep forgetting the exact count, it's something like 163 or something around that. A long time friend has been collecting the PHM books for decades and has almost every one of them! I, on the other hand, need a ton of them!!!
  20. This is so awesome!!! I have more holes in my PHM TTA run than a noodle strainer!!! Well done!!!
  21. WOW, these are all beauties and VERY tough in nice shape! Congrats!!!
