  6. To me, #24 has always been the key book to have. It's the 1st appearance of both Zartan and Firefly (one of my favorites). Sure, I know it has the whole Hulk 180/181 thing going on, but to me it's the 1st Zartan. I definitely hear you on the "first full app" thing. Sometimes getting just a glimpse of the characters you know is going to be bad azz is so much more potent. Issue #24 is my all time favorite issue . I am hoping to get a 9.4 slab this year. Nothing on the open market recently that I have seen. Russ Heath art really sets the series off as one of the war artists. Firefly is another well developed fixture of the ARAH series. Thanks for all the input fellas!
  7. Any of you Joe afficianados know what FMV is on a 14 in cgc 9.8 now? Is GPA realistic? Just none available out there currently that I see.
  8. Clint bought a book from a recent sales thread, paid quickly and is a good guy to deal with.
  9. I'm not sure. It would be interesting if even ten collectors went after high grade bronze Marvel westerns. They seem to be really tough to find in high grade. I wonder how many would, or could, come out of the woodwork. i think there might be more than 10. if they slabbed out to 9.6 or 9.8 i think you will do well. i have a few of these from that era in great shape i bought 4/$1, bagged and boarded 20 years ago. they were worthless then so i stuck them away to age them more. they probably somehow got crushed in their boxes or something with my luck. I sold the two I would have considered grading here raw. Obviously I was looking at a very small sample size, but the issues I looked up on GPA looked to be going for $60 +/- for 9.6s with no 9,8s. I may have not looked at enough. And I only looked at Bronze. Silver may be a different story as well.

  11. I don't think I've ever posted books in this thread, mostly because I rarely go to garage sales. flea markets, or Antique Malls. However, two Mondays ago, I had to go to a job site in a small town about an hour and a half northwest of Detroit. On the way up, right outside the small town, I noticed a store right on the road with candy, books, LPs, DVDs, and comics painted on the front. I figured I'd go in on the way back. For whatever reason, I didn't go in. Later that day, I was asked to go back to the site that Friday. This time, I went in after the site visit. I walked in the back door and shelves of comics were right there. I started looking through them, and flipped through some of the worst 80s and 90s books I've ever seen. I'm talking about stuff I would have bought when they came out. They were that bad. Another rack was even worse, stuff from the 80s and 90s I'd never even seen before. I walked to the last rack around the corner, and it was more of the same. I looked through the top and middle racks and found nothing. However, on the bottom corner I saw some bronze Marvel westerns. These didn't fit in with anything else the store had, but a few were nice enough to get, even though they weren't even bagged. I sold a few here, and I think one or two would at least tie for highest graded if they were submitted. Nothing earth shaking, but not a bad find. Some of the nicer ones. The colors on these are fantastic. Some reprinted earlier issues and I think the coloring on the reprints were more bold than the original coloring.

  13. Just sold a few books to Randall. He paid immediately, and is great to deal with!
  14. Depending on what the back cover looks like, I'd re-sub that bad boy. Has to be an interior defect like tanning on that book. What do the notes say? The cream to OW PQ would probably indicate that - damn Texas attics . . . Seems like I've seen an unusual amount of C/OW pages on this book for some reason. I had a 9.2 slab with C/OW.
  15. Just got a very nice slab from David. Shipped quickly and safely. Great to deal with!
  16. Assuming all of the books were purchased at their designated prices from the sales thread and not as a group discounted purchase than I could see returning some of the books. If there was a negotiated discount for the purchase of the group of books then the seller is reasonable in requesting that all of the books be returned for a refund. Also, I find it odd that the buyer had enough time to inspect the one high grade book and send it in for grading but didn't at the same time inspect the other books. What's the timeline on the receipt of the books, review of the books, mailing the one book to CGC and then asking for the refund. Actually, I didn't have time to inspect any of the three books quickly. He sent them to me on or about 3-7. From 3-10 until about 3-30, I wasn't able to do anything with the books because I was slammed with work. I got to them on the 31st and sent one of them and a few others on the 31st. I sent him a PM later that week, and it still sits unread. I waited and waited, then contacted him via e-mail after getting the address from PayPal. When I finally opened a case through PayPal, he responded. PayPal also said I could send them back for a refund, but only if I sent all three. So, between that and the fact that several boardies also agree that they might also ask for all three books back. I won't pursue it any further. It looks like he's been chased off the boards for other things anyway.
  17. One book in the group of three was graded accurately. I wanted to keep it. If it's not worthy of the list, at least it can be a warning to future buyers. It looks like he's been run off the site anyway. He still has to answer to Tom's complaint as well.
  18. toyman purchases a TOS issue from me for $219 on February 28. Didn't hear from him for a few days and then he says give me some time to pay I'm waiting on some board payments...this was on March 2. He told me he lived in the same city as I so I said why don't we meet at the local Starbucks and I hand deliver the book. He said that would work and sent a PP payment of $139 on March 8 and said he'd give me $80 bucks cash when we met. He PMed me his cellphone on March 10 and I set up a meeting for after work on March 11 and called with no answer. Called the next day no answer. He PMed me and said he had another long meeting and that the next day March 13 would work. He didn't answer my calls on the 13th so I was busy and figured the ball was back (still in) his court and waited to hear back from him. I finally PMed him again on the 15th and said the 16th might work but I was going to be out of town and possibly late home. He said Tues the 17th or Wed the 18th would work. I told him I had something going on St Patty's Day and that I'd meet him at 5:30pm on Wed the 18th...he said PM him the address. I leave work about 5:15pm on Wed the 18th and notice he hasn't even answered the PM which I gave him the address. I called him, no answer...go to the Starbucks just in case (it's right near my house) and call him again no answer and tell him I've got something to do shortly thereafter and couldn't hang around. No answer anyway. PMed him on the 18th and notice he didn't read that PM for another couple of days. Finally he read the two PMs and didn't leave any reply. Figured I'd wait to hear from him...thought I'd call him this weekend and try and get the transaction completed...only to get a Paypal Claim on my email this morning... He filed a 100% refund and told Paypal I had failed to deliver the book. Again, he had my cellphone number and of course the PMs and he never communicated anything...wanted to back out of the purchase etc. I was pretty bummed...have never had this happen ever since I've been on Paypal...I call Paypal and he says he told them he was no longer a member of CGC so he could no longer pursue the transaction... So it's all your guys fault! Just kidding Anyway, I'll probably let it go but please place Mr. toyman on the Probation List when the time duration kicks in on my behalf... I'm also going to nominate toyman, Steve Candido, for the Probabtion List. I recently purchased four books from him in two sales threads he had going. The first purchase was one book, and it was fine. The second purchase was three books. One was fine, and I sent it in for grading. The other two books were overgraded. One minimally, and one by quite a bit. One book was grded as a 9.4/9.6 and is a 9.2. Not horrible, but not was what I was expecting or wanted. The other book was listed as a 9.4. It was a 9.2 with a stain on the back cover, which would grade it out as an 8.0 in my opinion. He did not post back cover scans in the sales thread. I asked for a 2/3 refund of the $150 total price so $100, but he was not willing to do anything. He then requested that all three be shipped back, but I can't do that because the third book is in for grading. I opened a PayPal dispute, and they sided with me but required that all three books be shipped back as he requested. I might be able to sell the two books for $20, but I cannot sell them for the grades he advertised. Here is a picture of the back cover with the stain at the bottom. It's a Conan 8. I sent him a PM on 4-3, but it was never read, at least on here. From the looks of it, he's not coming back to the boards as toyman, but maybe this will help someone in the future. In 8 years and many board transactions, this is the first one I've had go bad.
  19. Cool, thanks. I did find a Superman 350 on eBay too. Maybe we should ask CGC where they got the JLA 163, 164, 165, and 170.
  20. Here's a bit of an update: The website lists the following comics that are not listed on the CGC Registry Set: Justice League of America 158 160 162 162 These four can be confirmed with a current search through eBay. Superman 350 This book is not currently on eBay and does not have a copy listed in the Census. Maybe it has been confirmed in this thread? The CGC Registry Set lists the following books that are not on the Stl list: Justice league of America 163 164 165 170 These books cannot be confirmed on eBay, and there are no copies showing in the CGC Census. The Superman book is listed in Overstreet 40. All 4 JLA books are not. With many of the pictures gone, I'm not sure if they were posted in this thread or not. I'll have to go back and look.
  21. the wayback machine says: DC Whitman list Awesome, thanks! The site has a printable Word document, and that's plenty good for me.
