Bought a number of slabs of Matt and they came very well packed and everything arrived in perfect condition. Great communication and fair shipping prices. Would buy from again without hesitation.

I bought from Steve recently also. Great seller. No messing around and very good communication. He is very fair when it comes to prices and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again.

That's a good point current GCG grading might not be as important years down the line just the quality of the book and right now the difference between some 9.6 and a 9.8 could be how good or bad a mood the grader was when he went graded it. Now I know there are guidelines they follow for grading but we are all only human at the end of the day and if the difference is minute then the mood of the grader could come into play also.

Good points there let me answer. "Lay out the research you’ve done into the pricing histories of your choices." I've looked at sites like comics.gocollect.com to see what the current value of the books are but having checked a few other key titles it seems to show less value than what is actually being sold now so I guess that site is a little out of date with it's prices. I've looked at ebay prices over the last few months and compared then to other auction sites and the prices seem to be the same so unless a graded copy pops up here then it looks like I'll be buying on ebay. "List your pro’s and cons of why you would choose one over the other, whether they’re financial or personal." They are both financial and personal. As I said my kids can sell it off after I die and I want them to be able to get the most money so I'm trying to figure out if in 40 years will more people have a run of 1-4 with a grade like 9.6 or just have a high grade 1 at 9.8. As for personal I want something in my collection that years from now I can look at and say not many people would be able to get/Afford this and I don't know if that would be a copy of 1 at 9.8 or a run of 1-4 at 9.6.

If I was going to get a non graded version what would be the best way to go about it. I live in Ireland so you will never see them pop up in real life so online would be my only option. Would it be possible to tell the difference between a 9.6 and a 9.8 from pictures alone? Edit: As an example there is this listing where the seller is saying its a 9.8/9.9 grade but it looks bent in the middle so I highly doubt it would be that grade. Would this be a 9.6 or can you not tell from the pictures? https://www.ebay.com/itm/WOLVERINE-1-LIMITED-SERIES-9-8-9-9-NM-MINT-WHITE-PAGES-IST-SOLO-WOLVERINE/143175645955?hash=item2155eefb03:g:eO0AAOSw0dFcjlFZ

I'm looking at the prices online and they seem to have jumped to crazy levels even from the prices they were a few months ago. The best price I have seen so far for a graded 9.8 white pages is $1200. Is this the worst time to buy or will I be even looking at paying way more in the next year or two. This is something I plan to keep for good so if I have to wait a year or two till the market settles I would be willing to do that but then the last thing I want to happen is to have to buy one for about 10 grand next year or the year after that.

Looking for advice on my first big spend

After spending the weekend looking at the sell forum and watching all the rare books that have gone up for sale and in some cases sold within a minute I think I know about ten time more now than when I joined this forum Friday. I've seen a few x-men 12 issues go for sale over the weekend that I would have claimed if my wire transfer from Apple shares had cleared. I'll probably have to wait until Wednesday for that. I did pick up some spiderman and fantastic fours ungraded over the weekend so what I think I might do is rather than spending a couple of grand on a book I'll keep an eye out here and pick up a few titles every now and again. I might still try to start off with a 9.6 Wolverine 1 but ya I have a bad feeling I've just become addicted to a new and expensive hobby lol. -
How would you get AC1 safely from 1938 to today?

I always wondered about this hypnotical. Say you could bring it back through time with you. Obviously it would only be a few days old. If you tried to get it graded would the examiner think it was a fake? -

Looking for advice on my first big spend

My favorite character would be wolverine so I'd guess hulk 181 would be at the top of my list but getting a graded copy would be well over 2k. I also like the modern classics like walking dead, invincible and preacher. I'm also looking out for non graded comics from the 1940's. My family originally come from the US so I have a lot of extended relatives that live in the US. My Dads aunt used to send the latest comic books to him when he was a child. As the only kid that got the latest comics from the US he was a very popular child in school lol. They had this weird system where they would write their name down on the back of the comic and whoever was next on the list would be the next to take it home and read it. He really believes that he had the very 1st batman issue but at 83 he would have only been about 2 when that came out so I doubt his aunt would have been sending comics to him at that age but a lot of the comics he was sent back then probably would be worth a pretty penny if he still had them today minus the list of names on the last page lol. Anyway I know he doesn't have many years left on this earth so I would love to surprise him with a comic he might have had as a kid. He was into batman obviously but he loved the weekly serials like flash gordon the lone ranger and so on. -

Thanks for the advice. That's really helpful. What's your opinion on buying comics here? After posting this thread I saw there is a sell section here and the prices seem better than ebay. -
I have a small collection of a few hundred comics that I have collected over the years non graded. None of them are rare. The one that is probably valued the most is a wolverine #75. If it was graded it might be a 9.2 so probably worth $30. I've always wanted something rare and CGC rated. Living in Ireland there are very little CGC rated comics for sale so I'm going to buy online. I want to pay a price that is fair but a lot of the prices I see on ebay are way more over priced than a lot of the sites that list the value of comics. I don't really care about the resale value of it years down the line because this is something I plan on owning and displaying till the day I die. I'm a big fan of wolverine so a high graded copy of the first issue would be high up on the list for me. I've also started watching the invincible series on prime and would love a copy of issue one but all the variants are confusing and again the price seems overblown but then not being experienced in collecting valuable comics I could be completely wrong here. I'm willing to spend between 1 to 2k. A first issue would be ideal but anything that is a fair price and rare would be preferable. Do you have any advice on where I should go from here?
