  1. What water stains? The thing under daredevils groin? That I don't know what that is. Those other drops by the sword are just ink drips, alot of copies of that book have those little dots, at least that I've seen.
  2. oof tough round, opened the door to victory for someone else in the play from home crowd. 8 pts total in round 1 and 2 and 9 pts in this one. Wings : 2.0 Beware: 5.0 Atom 6.0 Silver Surfer: 7.5 Hulk 4.5 gotta go back and see what I was missing, usually when miss i'm under, but I overgraded a bunch here which is unusual.
  3. No bleed through that I see. It just looks like a scuff to me, that's why I was thinking maybe it was a very small tape pull, but I'm not sure if residue from tape would shine under blacklight.
  4. Thanks everyone for the feedback, very helpful. Only thing I haven't seen is does anyone have any specific thoughts on the book I posted? Would residue from a tape pull pop under blacklight?
  5. I wouldn't have given this a 3.0, I think that was a gift, maybe them being more lenient on a grail book? But the Dexter couldn't be higher, it has more cover missing and it has 2 pieces of the cover missing and the eye appeal is worse because of the location. This missing chunk doesn't detract from the eye appeal as much as the Rex one imo.
  6. On second look I think the pic resolution cost on this one. I think by the lower staple on the front cover there is a decent sized crease, that I just took to be part of the printing process. That's the only thing I could see that could have made me miss so bad.
  7. Hello, I have pretty much 0 experience with looking at comics with restoration and being able to identify it. I just got a raw comic that had something popping up under the blacklight. Here is the pic When the blacklight is off though it just looks like damage. First off I notice the area doesn't match the color if it was indeed color touch, so that brought me to my first question/thought. If a kid drew on a comic somewhere or a marker fell on the comic would that come back as a purple label because there is color on the comic even if there was no actual intent to cover up a flaw and make the comic look better. My thought would be just that is counts against the grade but wouldn't be considered resto. Now for this specific issue when I look under a loupe it looks like maybe it was a very small tape pull. Would old tape residue shine under blacklight? Just looking for thoughts on what people think could be causing this to shine under the blacklight, and if this would come back as a PLOD. Thanks for your time in advance!
  8. I agree lets talk ASM 300....i see a couple ticks on the back which is why I went 9.4....front looks flawless to me. It's the color rub from the black parts I guess that are taking it down some more? That's the only thing I can come up with. I just ignored it thinking it was from when they were stacked up and transported.
  9. I got 6 that round, 8 total for the play at home crowd..... Dexter : 1.5 Law breakers : 8.0 (need to look to see why i was so off, must have missed a crease) Action: 5.0 Scooby : 7.5 ASM : 9.4
  10. I knew I was forgetting something and checked this morning only to see I missed the deadline......I played along anyway and scored a 2 in the first round...you guys are lucky I'm terrible at remembering
  11. I say 8.5 as is and up to a 9.2 if the press takes our that 3/4 inch crease on the back and whatever other NCB ones there are. The tear is kind of a bindery tear that went bad, so I don't think it would grade as harshly as a tear this size in another area.
  12. From what I see I don't think the press would help the problems with the book that are causing most of the grade which to me the biggest things I see are the spine ticks that are kind of deep, the bottom right corner, foxing and that crease on the top middle edge. It does seem like maybe it was undegraded a half grade possibly to me, but hard to tell with pics through a slab.
  13. @Funnybooks Thank you! @William-James88 Thank you for running the contest was alot of fun and more importantly helpful for us all to practice.
  14. Sorry just getting on the boards this weekend. Thank you for the kind words everyone. I'm fine with doing a grade off, let do it
  15. Hey just took a look at your post. I think you were right in your initial thought that it couldn't get that big of a bump. Unless I'm not seeing things right it seems like on the back there above the ring is like a 2 inch or so color breaking crease still so no clue how it could get the bump to 9.2. Not trying to knock it down just making an observation. Hope that guy grades all my stuff. Congrats on the grade
  16. Also i guess they called that a bindery tear and not a small spine split... light bindery tears to cover
  17. That crease on the 109 must have pressed well then. It was odd, big crease but didnt really look color breaking. I don't look at books that old often so maybe that paper works differently? Would love to see the pic when you get it back.
  18. Sorry also forgot to ask, on the The in "The True Story of Frankenstein" is that pencil scribble?
  19. On the detective 135 on the back, is that blue streak ink from the printing process or distributer spray that dripped, or something else?
  20. Seems so, will have to adjust my strategy and not compare to any other books and grade it in a bubble....it got me in your last contest as well when you had 2 of those same batmans, i forgot which issue. But I thought 1 was clearly better, and they both had the same grade. Sun shadow wasn't even mentioned in the notes, I'd much rather take light foxing than a sun shadow.
  21. Press didn't take this out on the Whiz I guess? Sounds like something a press would fix very small, very light, multiple indent top of back cover That's why my 9.2 guess didn't pan out.
