  1. I'd like to see sets of short run Avon series that don't qualify for the one-shots set: Buddies in the U.S. Army Campus Romances (mentioned above) Television Puppet Show U.S. Tank Commandos Also, why no Crime Must Pay the Penalty set? Books have been certified but no set for them. Please add.
  2. I'd like to see a new set created for the Avon Campus Romances books, including the Realistic nn issue.
  3. I recall concern about PCH in general a few years back and I'm still concerned. Here are some sales for selected Avon horror books that seem to be quite a bit out of whack: Eerie 8, 7.5, $3,346 11/2017 (pts = 319) Eerie 9, 7.5 $2,032 11/2017 (pts = 356) City of the Living Dead, 6.5, $1233 11/2016 (pts = 109) Diary of Horror, 5.5, $657 12/2017 (pts - 79) Eerie 2, 5.5, $1,553 5/2016 (pts = 378) Eerie 2, 4.0, $747, 8/2017 (pts = 221) Eerie 2, 2.5, $300, 10/2017 (pts = 126) Eerie 14, 7.5, $956 5/2017 (pts = 319) While I'm at it, some of the good girl books are not tracking very well: Claire Voyant 2, 4.5 raw, $502 9/2017 (pts = 52) Claire Voyant 3, 2.5, $126 4/2017 (pts = 32) Claire Voyant 3, 6.5, $675 4/2017 (pts = 106) Claire Voyant 4, 7.0, $836 8/2017 (pts = 137) Claire Voyant 4, 8.0, $1,075 3/2017 (pts = 273)
  4. Could you please expand the Capt. Steve Savage set to include all of the issues, and not just limit it through #8. Where do I put my #10 now? You should break it down between the 1950-1953 first series of nn through #8, and the 1954-1956 second series of #5 through #12.
  5. Value comics, standard (slow boat) submission, time elapsed between invoice date and shipped date: 7/7/17 - 81 days 7/31/17 - 88 days 11/6/17 - 80 days (shipped two days ago)
  6. The Betty and her Steady is a #2. The #1 is Going Steady with Betty. Both are part of the Avon one-shot set in the registry, though I believe they really are a pair.
  7. This is great stuff! I would bet you have quite a bit more knowledge of statistical analysis and perhaps a fair amount of time on your hands to have compiled all of this terrific information. CGC data provides only a limited number of variables (date of the book, signature, variant, universal v. restored/conserved, grade, page quality, certification number, title). I wonder if you have considered running some correlation or regression analyses to see how certain variables relate to each other, e.g. whether restoration was detected in a bigger part of the submissions in the early years, how page quality might correlate with grade in certain eras, etc. I suspect the possible information you could develop is only as limited as your imagination. Can you access the registry data and perhaps use the point assignments as proxies for value? I'd love to know what the trends have been with superhero v. crime v. PCH v. other genres, but that would require far more data input than anyone would likely want or be able to undertake. Thank you for the effort you have put into this. Please keep educating us.
  8. Jeff, I can't believe nobody has commented on the jaw-dropping, stunning quality of the Exciting 58 and 60. I know you have some equally thrilling copies of Thrilling. Show everybody your #75, and throw in a scan of your #15 is you get a chance.
  9. Jerry Weist's shop. When I started collecting in my mid-teens and read my first copy of Overstreet I always wanted to visit that store, in particular. I could never have afforded the airfare from England, or had much to spend there, anyway. It was in a shopping center called the Garage off Harvard Square as I recall. Had weekly auctions in the early-mid-70s when I was there. One week I remember Howard the Duck #1 going for a ridiculous price, think I dropped out at $6 or so. Lots of back issues of books I didn't appreciate at the time, wish I could go back.
  10. Great info Jeff. Re: Joe Nacca, yes I suspect he would come in below Harley. I did one deal with him last year for 15 books, sent 10 back, kept and had Matt press the other 5, sent them to CGC and only 2 of the 5 made grade, one had been overgraded by 2 increments, and two were off by 3 increments even after pressing. By your method, his average overgrading on the five books was 1.6 increments, and those were the five best out of the fifteen I had initially purchased. In his defense, he was easy to work with, friendly, and no problem with the refund on the ten I sent back - perhaps he is used to it. Is it fair to assume that you are buying primarily high grade stuff? It might help us if you gave us the actual median grades per the seller and per CGC (if you have that data assembled) so we know if you are buying different condition level books from different dealers, etc.
  11. Thank you for doing this Jeff. I had asked for this in the thread you started about being done with the dealer who pulled all their Church books (you know who I mean though I see you are not naming names - yet). You are providing a great service. I just got 5 more books back from CGC that I bought from that particular dealer and sent to Joeypost to be pressed, 3 came back at their grade, one was two of your grade increments overgraded, and the 5th was 6 increments overgraded (called a 9.0, came back 6.0)! The sad story of my prior 5 books from them was told in your "I'm done" thread. I'm guessing they are either dealer 2 or dealer 4 on your list. Keep feeding us more statistics please.
  12. Economy slow track "shipped" (from CCS in Sarasota) to CGC 3/22/13, shipped by CGC to me (or so they say, should arrive today) 7/12/13, 112 total days, which I believe is 77 business days. Their website for the last few days has said current "economy" turnaround is 59 business days, so maybe that is a description of their intentions, not their performance.
  13. Economy service, sent to CGC 12/6/12, received it 4/18/13. That's 133 calendar days, and I believe 90 business days, subtracting two day ground shipping to and from suggests 85 or so business days.. Current posted turnaround time for economy is 59 business days.
  14. Here's the latest on "value" books: - 18 books received by CGC 5/7/12 - graded 10/8/12 - still not back yet, 185 days (130 business days) later. "Shipping is backed up too."
