  1. Haven't had a whole lot of time for comics lately, but needed to use my 4 coupons from my CGC membership. Very happy with the results. 3 new books for my registry set and a book that I enjoyed when I was a kid.

  2. Bought some books from Robert's latest sales thread and all was good! One of the great guys on the board....even if he is from Canada :baiting:

He threw in a freebie that was a great addition to my collection as well!

    Chris.

  3. Plastic seems like the only option. What do you guys think?

In the last couple of years I've made the transition to Gerber Mylite2 Golden/Silver w/ a Fullback and the box made for these. I love this setup! Books have plenty of room and the Fullbacks are great. Yeah, they are expensive, but I love my books.

As far as the plastic boxes go, I use the corrugated plastic boxes from Bags Unlimited for my CGC books. I got tired of the cardboard boxes falling apart due to the heavy weight of the slabbed books. I've had NO problems with the plastic boxes from BU and recommend them highly.

  4. Although I am not familiar with this specific model of scanner, I suspect that once the lid is closed, something is engaged (a lever or contact of some sort) that is causing the problem.

I guess the decision to return it is yours, but for $70 I would not want to hear that noise every time I scanned something. Also, I still think that it is just a matter of time before something gives and you end up with a boat anchor.

  5. That doesn't sound normal

It sounds like tiny construction workers are inside jack hammering a scan from stone.

Sounds like the belt or the sprockets that move the scanning mechanism is going bad. I would return the scanner. It may work now but I don't think it will for too much longer. I deal with these sorts of devices in my work environment and there is something in the guts that needs replacing.

  6. My third group of great books from Val! Like the last two, grading was spot-on and I love the books. Somehow he manages to get books from California to Louisiana in 48 hours...frikkin airmail or something. Great transaction!

  7. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for something end-of-world/apocalyptic...disease, aliens, gods, nature, zombies, etc. I've read most of the mainstream stuff (King, McCarthy, etc.) so I am looking for something off the beaten path. The darker and grittier the better. Thx.

The first two were dark and disturbing, the last two were weird and thought provoking. All were good reads.

Thanks Davenport! I've read The Infection and enjoyed it, but I'll put the others on my list.

  8. Got a super batch of Bronze Captain America books from Bill and as usual they look great. Bill is a superior grader and the books have no problems getting to me in Louisiana from Hawaii.
