    New Name for People Who Still Collect DC

    As someone who is still pretty new to (but very enthusiastic about!) silver age collecting and reading, I find a lot of DC stuff to be much more accessible than Marvel, so even though my Silver Age fascination began with Spider-man, Daredevil, and X-Men, I've been buying way more Batman, Superman, World's Finest, B&tB, etc. than I ever thought I would, and even read my first ever Justice League America and Green Lantern comics the other day and I'm actually kind of surprised by how much I've enjoyed it. Green Lantern, for example, is something I never once even considered reading, but I found a copy of GL 62 at my local comic shop for under 10$ and I figured, what the hell I'll give it a try, and while I still prefer Batman when it comes to DC, I was pleasantly surprised and now feel inclined to read more SA GL if I come upon it.

    I still am trying to buy certain Marvel issues when I can, like most Sgt. Fury issues seem to be fairly cheap atm but have been really fun to read, and some of the latter TOS issues aren't overly expensive for reader copies. Now and then I'll spend the extra money for an early Spidey or early-mid TOS as something special, but simply due to how much easier it's been to find SA DC locally and the fact that I don't have to fight people over them at auctions, it's pushed me way further into DC than I expected, but I'm happy to explore all of it! I feel like discovering this new love for silver age comics has opened a whole new world to me, so I'm just having fun with it.

    ASM 300 Appreciation/ Club Thread

    My brother bought these when they came out and later gave all his comics to me when he moved away. 301 has water damage, but both the 300s look really nice. I ought to send them in for grading sometime. Venom was, with the possible exception to Wolverine, my favorite Marvel character as a kid, so I was really excited to find these in the boxes he gave me. Always loved Mcfarlane's work.

    Hello! New to the forum but comics have been part of my life since I was a small child. While it is in no way my biggest hobby, it is one that I really enjoy. I have fond memories of going to the comic shops with my older brother in the 90s. He was super into Spawn and Youngbloods and WILDCATS and I really loved Spider-man, Batman, and X-Men. Was always really fond of Venom, Carnage, Wolverine, Gambit, and Cable.

    Ive generally collected bronze and copper age comics but more recently i've taken an interest in the Silver Age. I'd never read the 60s Spidey or X-Men comics so I've been going through the old Marvel Tales reprints from the early 80s for Spider-man and I've been really liking it. It's been interesting reading and learning about the Silver Age comics, of Marvel in particular.

    Currently i'm working on completing a few sets. Web of Spider-man, Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-Man, Spider-man (1990), Spider-Man Unlimited, and Marvel Star Wars (1977). Filling in some gaps post 150 in Amazing Spider-man but I'll likely start collecting more of the issues below 150 soon and ill try to get some cool silver age issues!

    Silver Age MegaKeys correlation between Blue and Purple labels

    Hello, I'm new on this forum but I'm a long-time collector of (primarily) Spider-man and X-men comics since the '90s. I have an extensive collection of bronze and copper age comics of these series' but only more recently have my interests started to seriously turn towards the Silver Age so I'm trying to learn as much about it as I can. I of course have been doing and plan on continuing to do my own research on this era of comics but I was curious what people's thoughts here are on collecting low-grade copies and possibly even low grade purple label copies of things like AF 15, ASM 1, or X-Men 1 which to me (and I know for many others) are kind of "grail" comics to own in most any condition.

    Just looking at eBay prices and sold listings there is quite a bit of data for blue labels in all sorts of varying grades but I feel a bit confused when considering purple labels and how they're priced. I understand this varies greatly on what kind of restoration was done and how much, but just as an example, I see in sold listings for restored a-

    7.0 Purple label Amazing Spider-man #1 with "Moderate B-3. color touch, pieces added, tear seals, cleaned, reinforced, re-glossed, top-edge of cover trimmed" which sold for just about $10,000.

    A restored 5.0 with "Slight B-1. Small amount of color touch on cover, tear seals to cover and interior" sold for $9,000

    And a restored 3.0 "Moderate C-3. colour touch, pieces added." sold for $6,000 which is the very lowest I can find in sold before getting into 0.5s with missing covers or pages and such.

    Just to contrast, I see a 1.5 blue label with it's front cover re-attached with tape that sold for nearly $7,000, a 4.0 blue label with no noted problems went for $14,000 and a 7.0 blue label with no noted problems went for $30,000.

    and just because I thought it interesting, a 1.8 blue label is currently at auction for $4,000 with 4 days left.

    I suppose I'm trying to understand what the price correlation is for these megakeys between restored and unrestored are, and whether certain restoration notes are more acceptable than others. How much *should* one spend on a low-grade purple label vs a low-grade blue label? Like that 3.0 which went for 6k. Is that a decent price for such a copy? Would that then mean it's comparable to say, a 1.0 blue label? And as far as I'm able to tell, would it be correct to say that 6-7k seems to be the floor right now for a complete ASM #1?

    Also, I'm a little surprised that 7.0 was graded a 7.0 with trimming as I would imagine that's far more destructive to the book than most anything else, or am I wrong? There does seem to be extensive restoration work on that book. I would imagine that the least amount of restoration would be better but perhaps the prices don't reflect that?

    I personally am not bothered with purple labels for the most part when it comes to these sort of megakeys and for some of them, like AF 15, they might be the only real viable entry point to owning a copy for myself and others just now venturing into the Silver Age world.

    I would appreciate any sort of help, clarification, advice, or even just commentary and opinions on this topic. It's been really fascinating to read and learn about all that goes into grading these highly sought-after comics. I hope to acquire at least one of these megakeys in the near-future and I'm just trying to learn as much as I can and be as informed as I can.
