  1. So I received my very first CGC graded comic today! It was an X-Men #1. I am out of town for work, but my roommate told me that today, the doorbell rang.... and he found my box laying on the stoop. So FED EX... had the audacity to completely disregard the fact it required a signature... and not only that, forged a signature themselves (since the tracking shows it was signed by someone). My roommate had plans to go out for the day at 11am... The package was delivered at 10:04am, thank god... Because a comic valued $10k-15k+ (it was graded 2.5) could've been on my stoop all day for anyone to steal. Such a horrible experience knowing the WHAT IF.... I have 3 more comics being delivered Tuesday and I'm worried what will happen if no one is home to receive them that day if my local Fed Ex drivers don't give a mess about signature confirmations. Anyway, done venting. -SD
  2. That does not sound like something that should be common. It is probably a defect or mishandling from a prior owner. Any pictures? I believe my Dad has every issue of MRF (I assume you're talking Gold Key and not Valiant?). I can take a peek at his outta curiosity.
  3. That is awesome feedback, great evaluation, keen eyes based on my single picture, and excellent advice. Thanks to everyone who chimed in. I am happy I discovered this forum prior to randomly sending books in. Cheers, ya all. PS: And yes, considering today's market, it was a steal, so I'm happy I got any copy of it while I was able to afford it. I paid $1500 for it. Right now, the cheapest one on eBay is a 0.5 that is missing 1/3 of the cover and is still listed for $9k.
  4. Ahaha. I figured as much. Didn't realize they can also decide/determine Green label. For example, I have an AF15 that's missing the last ad page (non-story affected). I've seen that as a blue label automatically graded as a 0.5 (regardless of rest of condition) because it's missing a page, but also as a green label graded (for example) a 2.5 because of it's actual condition (minus the missing page). So if that's the case... how are some copies blue and some green if CGC decides and the sender does not?
  5. Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. Do I request purple label, or do I just send it in and they default purple label because they notice the touch-ups?
  6. Hey gang. Relatively new here... Collecting vintage comics & first appearances for around 2 decades with none really graded yet. But I'm on the verge of sending in my first batch of my more valuable comics to be graded soon (probably not all at once). This Fantastic Four #1, I picked up about 10 years ago. It was for a decent price too, considering what they go for now. It's obviously a great issue to own in any condition. The biggest flaw I see is that someone wrote "FAN" in the quote from the Human Torch. Was does that mean to my submission? Is that considered restoration? Am I better off trying to erase those letters or leaving them as is? Will 3 handwritten letters de-value & de-grade it a lot? Will it be a forced purple label grade and be ineligible for blue label? I don't plan on selling it. I'm happy to own the book regardless of the condition. Just wanted advice on how to submit it to CGC, if at all. Thanks, -SD
  7. I love this book. I have the whole series, purchased when they were on newstands. Most of mine are all signed by the different voices at this point, so I can't get them legit graded. I'm really new to estimating grades but that book looks pretty nice. I don't think the 2 corners would affect it too much but what do I really know... so I'll throw out a 9.0-9.2
  8. Thanks for your advice. So far, Green Label seems to be the favored suggestion. I don't even see any Qualified copies on eBay, but do see a couple 0.5 blue labels. I wouldn't be selling this one anyway, but I think I'd want to grade it in the manner it would be more appealing to others IF one day I was forced to let it go. I attached a back cover photo. Cheers, and thanks.
  9. This thread was already on page 2 because I created it Thursday but only got approved today. I am less concerned about overall grading feedback and more concerned about the difference on blue vs green label. All feedback welcomed! Thanks so much!
  10. It seemed silly to make 2 threads titled "X-Men #1" if one reason for wanting feedback was to have them compared side by side. But thank you thank you. I will remember that!
  11. Technically his first appearance is in Avengers #195. But #196 is his first cover appearance and "full" appearance. I'd give that a 7.5 - 8.0
  12. Hi all! I am new to this forum, as well as new to being a CGC member. I've been collecting comics (mostly vintage and first appearances) for the last 15 years or so, and the bulk of my comics are NOT graded. I guess I'm old school and still like being able to physically hold issues. I have some duplicates that I may sell soon and since I can't decide necessarily which are better, I may start getting things graded, so I can keep the better copy and sell the other. Right now, I'll showcase my 2 copies of X-Men #1's. They are both in relatively poor condition, but it's still a great comic to own any version of. Especially once the famous mutants join the MCU. Posted are the front & back of each comic as well as side by side comparison of the covers. I'm unsure which copy is better, which is why I may send them both in to CGC (probably not at the same time, aha). The biggest flaw on the left copy is the multiple pieces of tape (and the spine roll around), whilst the one on the right is more rough around the edges and spine (but the logo and stuff is much more clean). Any feedback is welcomed. Thanks, -SD
  13. Hi all! I am new to this forum, as well as new to being a CGC member. I've been collecting comics (mostly vintage and first appearances) for the last 15 years or so, and the bulk of my comics are NOT graded. I guess I'm old school and still like being able to physically hold issues. That being said, I have some duplicates that I may sell soon and since I can't decide necessarily which are better, I may start getting things graded, so I can keep the better copy and sell the other. THAT aside, this thread is about my Amazing Fantasy #15. It's in relatively poor condition, but still a decent cover and better than many crappy ones out there. The major flaw is it is missing the last ad page (doesn't affect story). If I was to get this graded, do I have to request Blue label vs Green label or does CGC decide? How does that work? And what's even better... a blue label as a 0.5 or a green label that could come back as a 2.0-3.0 or something...? What would be worth more in the long run? I've seen people selling individual pages of this book for thousands of dollars each (not that people are quick to buy those). Just because of one missing unaffected story ad page, if that makes my copy so much less valuable, is it worth just tearing the book apart and selling each page solo?! LOL JOKES. But still, any advice is welcomed. -SD
