I tend to go back to the usual dealers I have bought from in the past first. For newer sellers, I will look at a couple of wall books along with the price, I can usually judge from the there if the guy is a good grader or the pricing is fair.

I'll also usually poke around for a bit before I drop any cash, attempting to judiciously allocate my funds for the books of which I am most desirous.

A 50% off sign will get me to look at the books, but it won't necessarily get me to buy them. I can do simple math in my head and I carry an OS.

I dig through the 50c bins but walk straight to the artist/inker's tables first to line up for either a free sketch or to get 1st crack at a stack of original art.

After my usual this year though,i did hit some 50% and 80% off booths and did very well.

i try not to buy comics at conventions any more and just stick to getting sketches, sketchbooks, commissions and autographs.
