DETECTIVE COMICS #27 found in attic

1,415 posts in this topic

So I'm wondering if all the negative stuff that Eides has been saying caused Todd to sell cheap.

People saying negative stuff about things someone else is selling generally has that effect. And when it's done with bad intent it can amount so a little thing lawyers like to call "damages."

Which is one of many good reasons to be very careful about what you say.

So when the cable company badmouths direct tv and the phone company, that's actionable? It seems like everyone would be suing everyone else in a society like ours where it's not enough to just beat the competition, you have to destroy them.

There's a big difference between badmouthing and purposely misrepresenting facts to cause competitors financial harm. A quick search of the internets will reveal to you many cases in which companies have sued one another for doing that. (sometimes, even when it is simple badmouthing; check the recent history of fast food company litigation).

Mr. Eide has been banned.

The last two weeks have ceratinly made up for the 2+ months without a strike.

I hear Dena will be gunning for people named Andrew next. :wishluck:

:gossip: That's just my porn stage name.

That is the scariest post I have ever read.

Might be the scariest post, but it's not half as scary as being invited over to watch his performances.

You went?!? :P

Not really, his way home from work goes by my house and I have a large picture window in the "set" room.

So. in your opinion, did Eides cross the line?

I don't know what he did. But if he made up something because he's got sour grapes from losing the books, yeah. If he says the books in question were trimmed and/or sold originally by a notorious crook, without being sure of it, then he might have showed reckless disregard (with bad motivation on top). But, as I said, I "know" only what I've read here. But I am not a big fan of people jumping up and inserting themselves into ongoing sales, auctions and negotiations with malicious guesses. Suppose the books are 100% legit and you caused somebody to have to sell it for much much less because they got wind of the malicious rumors, and suppose they were selling because they truly needed the money (mortgage, kid needs operation, take your pick), do you think you'll see any of the rumormongers stepping in to make up the difference? What I see sometimes in these situations is extremist behavior -- and that is not an exaggeration. Extremism occurs when it involves a disregard for the mistaken or wrongful harming of innocent persons. And what I see in some of these threads is sometimes akin to a total scorched earth view -- sour and destroy any deal if there's even the slightest possibility that among the innocent there also are one or two who might guilty of crossing some line (and with the lines so ill-defined, most deals can be made to fit the description).

Reading Eide's posts is like reading the Da Vinci Code...in Swahili. Here's what I think Greg is saying. He can correct me if I'm wrong, but hopefully his response won't begin with "riddle me this!"

1) Danny restores and/or trims a whole bunch of funny books.

2) Danny sells said funny books to Todd.

3) Todd keeps the 'Tec 27, using it to get some free national advertising.

4) Todd sells the other 71 books to Steve Geppi for a song.

5) Geppi consigns some of the books to Heritage, and either submits them to CGC himself, or lets Heritage handle it.

6) Geppi makes a boat-load of cash, Heritage makes a boat-load of cash.

7) The hobby now has a bunch of restored and/or trimmed books floating around in blue labels.

Am I close? Answer quick, before this post self-destructs in 4...3...2...1...

Sounds about right. So that's Eide's scenario. Todd's scenario is that he was approached by a seller who found a bunch of fantastic books in an attic, and he pounced like a cat on a mouse. The books are now coming back from CGC clean, and he got the deal that every comic collector dreams of. The only bummer is that one of his competitors, who coincidentally passed on the deal, is trying to kill his buzz by making up a story that the books came from the most notorious scammer in the business.

JohnT you live on Talos 4,i live on planet earth. Near mint ,i pegged you for a person_who_is_obnoxiously_self-impressed but............you get the smart boy award tho you don't have all the facts. JohnT could probably fill in some since he is a mouthpiece for Todd who is going to be thrown under the bus.

Nice flame out.

Mr. Eide has been banned.

No mess ?

Pretty weak reason if you ask me. He was being a jerk but I'll be danged if CGC isn't going to make me into a tinfoil hat wearing fool.

agree that this seems sorta weak;

"joined solely to push an agenda and then goes on to name call and insult others"

gonna have to go elsewhere to hear how his story plays out...........

Weak maybe, but when the agenda being pushed implies that CGC missed restoration on major GA books.....he was doomed the minute he registered.

Banning him doesn't make me feel all warm & fuzzy inside. In fact....it only serves to perpetuate the conspiracy theories.

No,it is posts like these that serve to perpetuate conspiracy theories.

Just to make this crystal clear, we will not allow this board to be used to push agendas or manipulate situations. If we find a member of the community is doing it, we will typically hand out a strike. When we find that someone has joined only for this purpose, we will ban them outright.

This train wreck of a thread is closed.
