Fall Show in Detroit

14 posts in this topic

I just went to their website and guess what? For the first time in my memory there aint gonna be no fall show in Detroit.

They say only this: "Due to unforeseen circumstances we will not be having our October/Fall 2007 show. Also, we do not have any shows at Gibraltar."

What happened? Actually, only respond if it's really seedy and disgusting like they were sued by one of the porn star guests for sexual harrassment. Or maybe Soupy Sales tried to unionize all the hasbeen guests and demand more money and a dental plan. If it's something like the organizer's mother is sick and he is attending at her bedside in a foreign country, it's not that important to me. I want dirt.

Motor City Comic Con, which I believe was supposed to be around this time, but cancelled.

we have such little joy in detroit these days. :sorry:

The Lions are 3 and 2. They could win 9 games this year... :wishluck:

After all the abuse I've taken over the years, I can't believe I still root for the Lions every week... :(

The rumour that circulated at the Sunday show in Toronto was that Motor City Convention just didn't do well last fall so they are going to go to Spring shows only. Can anyone substantiate this? Can anyone substantiate this while mixing in an axe-murderere story?

That would be my opinion. I did not go last fall, but heard numerous dealers complaining. With the terrible economy in MI at this time, I don't really think Detroit can support to major shows. Both shows used to be terrific, but I think this is the right decision until the economy up there gets better.

It's actually not a bad show and it seemed quite large, though with the Spring one larger. Certainly, I am not theIR accountant and I don't know what expenses they have or for that matter their sources of income. Still, you'd think that with that many comic fans in one room there would be a way to make some money out of it. Maybe some sharp capitalist will get a convention going in Detroit apart from the Motor City people and make it a success.

I have to wonder if all the weird guests they have, apart from the comics ones are worth the expenditures, whatever they may be. I mean, me, I love Soupy Sales, Virgil and all the porn chicks and it's always nice to see Lou Farrigno who I think I get together with more often then my mother, but I am primarily drawn by the comics. Maybe if someone put together a convention that concentrated on comics more than all-but-forgotten film stars they would do better.

The gang from Toronto will miss the fall show. BUT WE ARE ALREADY GEARING UP FOR THE SPRING AS WE WATCH THAT DOLLAR RISE!!!!!!!!!!!
