OT: So if I were to write the next Superman movie...

147 posts in this topic

In the GA, Superman's powers didn't develop until he was an adult. Just let it go like that.

I want Superman in a slugfest. Has to be somebody who he can really open up on and has to in order to beat him. Maybe an evil, undead Bizarro created by Luthor while trying to clone Superman. Bizarro doesn't have to be just dumb and backward, he could be evil and bent on destruction.

Or maybe the Parasite. Or Solomon Grundy. I want to see a fight like Neo and Smith had in the last Matrix movie. That was awesome.

an evil Frankensteinish Bizarro is great. A brute whos a good match for Supes. But it might just be a slugfest. You know, B punches S into Mt Everest. Supes fly-pummels B into the molten lava deep beneath the crust etc etc. Back and forth increasing the ante. Im afraid we've seen it all before.

Created from a clone experiment gone bad is good. Just NOT Luthor again.

Definitely a major slugfest. I remember being awed as a kid by the slugfest between Supes and Spidey in that Treasury Edition. Very fun stuff. Similarly, in Supes #2, after he gets his powers back and comes after Zod.

Many have mentioned that it needs to be "fun", and I couldn't agree more. Not comical, but laced with humor where it's appropriate.

My thoughts keep coming back to Braniac and Bizarro.

Sorry, that was in reference to all the talk about Supes and LL's brat....Just have him be a non factor until he grows up......It was stupid that they introduced it

I'm thinking something like this...

Braniac is a robot from Krypton, sent to Earth by Jor-El in the months prior to Krypton's destruction, to confirm that it's an appropriate place to send Kal-El, should it become necessary. Since Krypton's destruction, Braniac has remained on Earth to watch over Kal-El from a distance, programmed to only intercede if totally necessary. He's lived quietly as a human, ever watchful.

But Krypton and Earth are very different places. Braniac doesn't understand why Kal-El delivers criminals to prisons rather than damning them to the Phantom Zone. He doesn't understand why Kal allows diplomats to sit and talk while people die on battlefields all over the world.

Meanwhile, Clark and Lois' son is deathly ill, his Kryptonian and human DNA fighting for control. For the first time since he arrived on Earth, Braniac sees that he's needed and steps forward. He reveals the truth about himself to Superman, who, desperate, allows him to examine the child.

Braniac takes a blood sample from the boy that he later uses to clone him. With Kryptonian technology, he accelerates the growth of the clone to adulthood. But the clone has the same conflicted DNA, and the accelerated growth reveals the end result of the physiological anomaly. The clone is BIZARRO, and Braniac trains him to "protect" humanity the Kryptonian way. And if Superman gets in the way..?

The greatest, most pulse-pounding slugfest in cinematic history.

thats damn good. Id prefer no Brainiac ties to Krypton - - but Id think TW would! Have Brainiac do more than create Bizarrro though... but your synopsis nicely plays up the Superman as alien in our midst that might turn on us, or, invite his people here who might do us harm, and/or cause Supes to question his loyalties.....

keep going! and good luck.

I really like the scenes where B has been living on Earth all this time unnoticed, so we see him around, a nondescript mysterious bystander until he comes forth with a ridiculous story. Then again, all Supes would have to do is a quick Xray scan to see he's a robot.

Exactly. He could be the janitor at the Daily Planet or something, someone always around but rarely noticed. Clark's never had a reason to x-ray him, but as soon as he come forward with this crazy story about being a Kryptonian robot, a quick scan confirms the tale.

Thing is, does the janitor go public? Would he understand that Supes needs a secret identity? When he reveals himself how could Clark/Supes STOP him from making the connection public? Brainiac of all people would positively know Clark was Superman.

And meanwhile, what's the nature of Lois and Supe's relationship? Is that public? Does it change her relationship with Clark in public? In private?

Clark would have to keep Brainiac quiet and keep Lois in the dark about the grave Kryptonian illness their child has.

But somewhere Brainiac should go very wrong or very evil, shouldn't he? Or would you want him as a sort of Dr. Frankenstein where his monster (the accelerated clone-child Bizarro) runs amok but is just misunderstood. The threat should be somewhat more sinister and direct somehow. Or is that just me...?

(And I still think a virtual reality bottled city of Kandor needs to make an appearance)

Brainiac here is like the Eradicator. He's programmed to watch KalEl AND perpetuate Krypton through him, or, in spite of him. Thats how he fgoes bad: hes not with the program (Clarks program). Because Clark is now happy as an American Immigrant, no longer from the Old World. And Brainiac/Eradicator must come to terms with that, or be shut down.

ties in with societal concerns, America, and xenophobia, perfect for our current geopolitical times.

Superman knows we/America is not perfect, BUT - - its a place (the only place?) where anyone (even a Kryptonian) can be accepted and start over fresh!! wow.

And he's got the Kandor program with him to teach Kal El how to be Kryptonion. :D (Yes, I can't let it go).

Clark's relationship with Lois will not have changed since SR. Now that I think of it, Braniac will not be the janitor at the Daily Planet. He needs to be someone Lois has never seen before, as Clark will introduce him to her as a doctor, a brilliant specialist that might be able to help her son. Maybe he'll just be Clark's mysterious neighbor down the hall.

As for the threat, Braniac is the mastermind, but Bizarro is the real physical threat. His methods for protecting humanity are highly aggressive..."euthanizing" armies of expansionist countries...that sort of thing.

his wig falls off at some point anbd we see the tell-tale Brainiac implants! I know, wig shmig, but I want to see the implants in his head! And TW wants to sell toys! Course whatever he look slike they can make toys, but they might prefer a tie-in to existing toylines.

That sounds like a good idea. (thumbs u

It should definitely create a dilemma for Lois Lane. Should she cheer for her own son who's about to destroy the world, or for Superman to save everyone, but kill her only child. One thing is for sure, her relationship with Superman will never be the same again. That being said, I just hope they don't revert the defeated Bizarro back into the kid again, and Superman and Lois fly off into the sunset. That would literally make me gag, and have us go back to the drawing board to figure out other ways of eliminating the little brat in Part III!

It ties into the backstory without totally ret-conning it. It doesn't make Jor-el into an evil conqueror. It doesn't make him come off as Kryptonians thinking they are superior beings that should rule.

i like this, all the way up to "lived quietly as a human," since it doesn't really make any sense to me. it would be more believable if he was hidden away somewhere, monitoring Superman, waiting for some protocol to kick in to announce his presence.

But Krypton and Earth are very different places. Braniac doesn't understand why Kal-El delivers criminals to prisons rather than damning them to the Phantom Zone. He doesn't understand why Kal allows diplomats to sit and talk while people die on battlefields all over the world.

okay, this I like too. makes sense. the continuation of the Kryptonian bloodline might just be the protocol to trigger Brainiac's awakening. Maybe he's in the Fortress of Solitude?

Braniac takes a blood sample from the boy that he later uses to clone him. With Kryptonian technology, he accelerates the growth of the clone to adulthood. i think if you have Brainiac starting out as a "good" guy, something has to happen to cause him to "flip." right now, he just seems like the confused "fish out of water." not sure how you explain the rationale for accelerating the growth of the clone, or why he created a clone in the first place if his mandate is to help Superman/Kal when needed.

I think it still needs some polishing. the concept of a Superman/Bizarro slugfest is an appealing one, although i am not looking forward to a lot of "Me am" dialogue

I think the idea that Brianiac doesn't understand why earth armies still fight in bloody wars and diplomats aren't resolving criminal issues (aka Jol-El and the Phantom Zone) is pretty good reason enough to make him want to clone a second Superman to make these events a reality. It sounds like a strong storyline to me and it gives us a chance to see a dangerously close 'evil' Superman cause general distrust between the crowds of Metropolis and Superman himself. Me likely. (shrug)

I like it, especially Bizarro going to extremes and killing people to stop them from killing each other. Maybe he even attacks militants and gets public support at first, but then continues on killing more and more and people turn against him. Perhaps during this time Superman is recovering from a battle with him and isn't healed enough to stop him.

Interesting idea Jeff, I think this part needs to be fleshed out though. Because it will be hard for the audience to swallow the fact that Braniac sat dormant, or rather impassive during all of Clarks previous perils and this one was somehow different.

Perhaps he was programmed by Jor el to NOT interfere.. and somehow circumvents this programming when Clarks child is in grave peril.

Speaking of which.. I would would much prefer to see Brianiac becoming self aware, or as you mentioned begin to question the pionts you bring up about people and war etc.....thus somehow giving Supes a real villian, and or tangible enemy. I just can't see the main Lois and Clark's story revolving around their sons sick bed even as a vehicle to introduce Bizarro

Not that it cant be part of the story, I just would like to see it end with Brainiac and Supes going at it somehow.. not a cloned son.

Just my 2c

I agree, And also the Bizarro lingo will be a hard sell imho

Fun thread tho, interesting ideas all around.

I bet JC is chewing nails right now listening to all of us Fanboys wax poetic.
