The Never-Ending Comic Book Quiz

An intense advertising competition between "Kookie Koola" and a competing beverage broke out in the pages of a long-running comic book. What was the name of the other beverage?

Let's try a blatant clue from the story.

Same question, clip from the cover this time.

the comic is donald duck 81 / Dell.

Is that gyro gearloose with no hat? no, waita minute, his glasses should hang off his beak.

so, no ... hmm..

man, selegue, you sure come up with some tough quesitons.

"I'm going to turn over all the cards, Arlene."

^^ for identifying the book.

[The cover gave me fits trying to balance the colors, and that sticker shadow (?) under D in Donald is nearly invisible on the actual book.

The beverage is Fizzle Swiggles, of course!

"A Polite Case of Sabotage"

Tough question because it's Bob Gregory, not Barks, so it's never been reprinted as far as I know.

The humanoid duck in glasses is just an unnamed advertising executive.

It does look like that lobster in the fridge but then if it from that comic, which story is it from. Gyro only appears in the 4-pager Flag Bragger and that's not helping. The longer DD story is with U$: The Golden Rainbow. All this means I am no closer to the answer knowing which comic this is taken from!!

Got caught by that not refreshing trick.

The most recent reprinting on that story was 1997 in Italy and before that it was 1977 in Germany. You are correct, this has never been reprinted in the US since its first appearance.

Thanks for the reprint info -- from INDUCKS? I tend to forget about that database.

Speaking of the not refreshing trick (certainly not as refreshing as Kooba Cola -- I mean, Kookie Koola), thanks for yet more reprint info. Is yours also from INDUCKS? Them furriners sure love duck stories!

Jack, if you had held off revealing the answer a little longer, I would have gotten it.

I wrote to someone selling the book on eBay and asked them to check it for me.

I just now received the answer. lol

I was out all night, but I had thought about bangzoom's idea also. You can't stop a comic guru from hitting all the bases to get an answer. :)

Well, I posted this on another thread and didn't quite get the exact answer.

Anyone know the origin of this cover? (including the artist)

Requires some detective work, but it's out there.

This artwork is a rejected cover proposal by Alex Toth intended for WITCHING HOUR #1.

It was ultimately used as the back cover for AMAZING WORLD OF DC COMICS #6.

Good enough. Although this is the rejected cover used on the back of amazing world of dc comics.

The quiz photo was one of the other two rejected proposals submitted by Toth.

I hand colored it and assembled a faux mock up, to get an idea of what it would look like. :)
