75 cent Marvel Canadian Price Variants

70 posts in this topic

CC has something to do with distributors or something I read something somewhere about this.

As for the value being different ... here in Winnipeg dealers make no note or charge different prices from the American counterparts. In fact you would have a hard time convincing some variant collectors that these are true variants. Considering the fact that both pence and Canadian newsstand comics were never sold on US newsstands I would tend to agree. Time and this variant crazed era may say otherwise.

It is actually CCC (look again).

I believe it stands for the "Curtis Circulation Company", the distributor of the books.

Great thread!

I was actually going through some books tonight and found quite a few. Does anyone have a list of the "worthwhile causes"? Meaning ones that would be good to stash? We know about the ASM 239 & 252, but what others would be considered a decent score?

Nice stash Chris!

How's the new pad? Where did you end up moving to?

Do all Canadian cover prices carry the 'CC' symbol?

I'm not sure what the "CC" means, but it's not exclusive to the CDN versions --- it also appears on the US version of Alpha Flight #2, which I posted above.

I think cc was for curtis circulation. I think they distributed to news stands at the time

Comcis compnies were obligatis to have the Colophon on cover

http://contracts.onecle.com/penthouse/curtis.distrib.1977.09.19.shtml

5. Colophon, etc. The colophon of the Curtis Circulation Company shall

be printed on the cover of each magazine distributed by CURTIS hereunder. The

PUBLICATIONS code number assigned by CURTIS shall also appear on each cover.

ASM 238 would come to mind as one 'grail' to the group.

That's probably the only one in there, maybe some of the Daredevils. I'm going off my rusty memory, but I don't think there's anything else in that time period (roughly 1981-1987) that is a "grail" from Marvel. Maybe Crisis 1 from DC.

It looks like the issues start on October 1982 and end on Jan 1986.

I've been working on determining what issues fall in this time frame. So far I have the following:

Amazing 233-272

Avengers 224-263

Captain America 274-313

Daredevil 187-226

Fantastic Four 247-286

Iron Man 163-202

Incredible Hulk 276-315

Thor 324-363

Uncanny X-men 162-201

Alpha Flight 1-30

Wolverine Limited Series 2-4

Got to go through Overstreet to determine the remaining titles. Stuff like Conan, Doctor Strange, Marvel Team up, Spectacular Spidey and such. :juggle:

319 is a 95 cent issue? Is there 95 cent variants as well?

For now I'll just put together a list of the 75 cent era books.

Yes the U.S. 60 cent issues are .75 cent Canadian and then when the U.S. price went up to .75 cents the Canadian editions were .95 cents.

Okay!

It's been an brutal couple of hours but I think I have all the issues narrowed down. Here's the list from October 1982 to Jan 1986 only. After that the price went up to 95 cents and I'm not sure how long the variant issues lasted. If anyone has any other titles or issues I missed we can add it to the list. My thanks to Beyonder and Metarog for providing me with some of the more obscure titles!

All are 75 cent issues unless noted:
