Paradise Conventions

is happy to announce

JEFFREY HAAS

Jeffrey Haas (writer of Crystal Fractal Comics' "Doctor Twilight" and "Entropy") has a BA in Anthropology and has worked with chimpanzees and rhesus macaques. He is a second generation comics fan and writer from the doldrums of Rhode Island. He believes comics are our mythology, and is excited for the opportunity to continue its tradition. A great comic springs organically from its characters. With a good concept, and imagination, anything is possible."

FRANK BRUNNER

Frank Brunner has been a frequent visitor to this third stone from the sun since 1949. On one particularly notable visit in the early 70's , Frank began working in children’s literature otherwise known as comicbooks! Frank still being a child himself, found a launching pad for his bizzare desires at a place curiously called Marvel Comics!, There, Frank decided to draw the most far-out characters available and naturally gravitated to the weirdos with names like Doctor Strange, Man-Thing, Howard the Duck and Conan the Barbarian. Frank stayed around just long enough to leave Marvel and go on to create or adapt other weird characters like Elric of Melnibone , Lord Cumulus of WARP, and The Seven Samuroid (graphic novel)on the next visit Frank landed in Hollywood and decided Movies were pretty cool to work in, (after all that’s mainly where he got his education about earthlings) Before long Frank found himself as the Art Director and chief Model Designer on shows called Jonny Quest and The Uncanny X-Men, The others were so weird they only lasted one season! ( like “The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimly) After awhile no one would trust Frank enough to let him Direct a Major Motion picture, So he left....Lately He’s been spotted scouting locations in South Carolina, and occasionally accepts Homework ( wherever that is?) and sends weird drawings to interested parties! Frank’s only motivation to continue with this strange behavior is so that he may remain an outsider, further his studies of earthling bi-peds and pre-hensile tails.

is pleased to welcome

CHRIS YAMBAR

Special guest CHRIS YAMBAR has been called everything from an "ugly baby" and "a person_too_unaware_of_social_graces" to "a one man art factory" and one of the "god fathers of modern indie comics". Writer, Painter, Publisher, Producer - this guy wears a lot of different hats! When he's not working as an internationally celebrated pop artist (he's created over 2100 images and has work in over 100 celebrity estate collections) he's writing for mainstream titles such as Bart Simpson Comics, Radioactive Man, Tree House of Horror (which he co-wrote with Alice Cooper and KISS bassist Gene Simmons), I Dream of Jeannie, Mister Magoo, Jetta, and Elfquest. In addition to contributing scripts, graphics, and cover art for more titles than we can list here, Yambar has successfully unleashed his own brand of award-winning creator owned character properties including such icons as Mr. Beat, The Fire-Breathing Pope, Itsi Kitsi-Happy Adventure Cat, El Mucho Grande-Wrestler For Hire, Suicide Blonde, Spells, Faith: Warrior Princess, The Twerp & The Blue Baboon, McBride-The Faerie King, Misfits, Life Maxx, Buttler-Everyone's Favorite Impacted Pup, Meow Wow, Bambeano Boy, and his latest sensation: Suckulina-Vampire Temp.

In 2000 Yambar added to his award winning humor and science fiction work by co-adapting the lost Thomas Edison horror film classic Edison's Frankenstein 1910 to overwhelming critical response. In 2007 Chris began a new chapter in his career by entering into a long term production and development relationship with Cinemanix whereby his entire roster of creator owned characters will be developed and marketed to the global entertainment media as animated features.

When he's not up to his neck in paint and manuscripts, Chris travels around North America as a theological and artistic motivational educator and stand up comedian. His turn-ons include long walks on the beach, BBQ, and a paycheck at the end of the day. For more Yambar related stuff go to http://www.yambar.com

This will be his ONLY CANADIAN APPEARANCE during 2008...AND WE'VE GOT HIM!

Jesse Rubenfeld started his journey in comics at a very young age;his father's friend were not like other older people...they made comics. Friends like Marv Wolfman, Len Wein, would pop up at odd times and help his father push Jesse towards pursuing his art....much later, he spent 7 weeks learning the art form from Scott McCloud. Armed with a bachelors degree in drawing, Jesse set out to create "Into the Dust", one of the few fully painted comics currently distributed through Previews. He has illustrated Magic books, drawn political cartoons, and even recently storyboarded a short film.

is happy to announce

ROB WALTON

Writer, Director, Actor, Cartoonist, Publisher, Storyboard Artist, Movie Extra... Who is Rob Walton?

Hailing from the frozen tundra of East Toronto, I've been working in the Animation Biz since 1991 when I joined Nelvana's design department to do my part in bringing fifty-two episodes of Beetlejuice to television.

In 1994 I began storyboarding full time. I became an Assistant Director in 1997 and made the move to Supervising Director in 2000 on Nelvana's "Committed" starring Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara.

As well as my work in animation, I have written and drawn several comic book series, most notably, "The Devil's Hammer" a Grendel Tale for Dark Horse in 1993, and my own self-published political and social satire, "Ragmop," from 1995-1997 for which I earned two Eisner Award Nominations. "Ragmop" was rewritten, drawn, and edited and published as a single volume, 462 page graphic novel in October of 2006. It was subsequently nominated for two 2007 Joe Schuster Awards, including "Outstanding Canadian Cartoonist".

I have written four un-produced screenplays, three un-produced television pilots for animation, one novel in progress, and countless wayward comic book scripts for Marvel and DC. Needless to say, I take rejection well.

Perhaps the closest anyone has come to the truth about me was comics creator Matt Wagner who confided to comics übersponge Joe Matt: "Rob Walton? Oh, man, yeah! He was like a priest or something. Then he went crazy and shot someone. Now he draws comics." True story. Which only goes to show that the truth is out there. Waaaaaaaaaaaay out there!
