OT: Off to Las Vegas - any good LCS near the Strip?

32 posts in this topic

Tomorrow I fly out to Las Vegas for a weekend trip and get together with my best friend's since childhood.

Any good comic shops within walking distance of the Strip? I have some time to kill tomorrow afternoon and the casino's will see enough of my money. lol

After tonight, I'll chime in on Monday night. (Not that quiet old me will be missed. :sorry: ) Have a great weekend everyone!

TonyStarkFan lives in Vegas. A PM to him will probably pan out. Also, when I was there last week, while travelling down Sahara to get to Lotus of Siam ( :cloud9:) there appeared to be a big ol' sci-fi-comic superstore on Sahara between the Strip and Lotus.

DO NOT WALK THERE. It is a really dotchy neighborhood. I didn't go in. Vegas is one of the few places on earth that I will not think about comics even once for four straight days.

I can asnwer that, since I worked at Sahara for almost 3 years. From Sahara Blvd & LV Blvd, only travel South! Takes you to the heart of the Strip. North, uh no. It gets very dicey between the Stratosphere & Downtown. Just think of the seedier parts of LA.

As for comic shops, they're few & far between. A quick google will give you the list. There's only one up NW where I live(25 min drive above the strip). Lotsa Moderns but little else.

Look me up in the Wynn poker room if you get the chance (5-1).

I'm the good looking dealer.

I believe we are going to Lotus Of Siam for dinner Saturday night. Rough neighborhood?

It is not unsafe. It is just a little unsavory. Lotus is one of the greatest restaurants in the country. Get to know the sommalier. Don't be afraid to drink sweet wine with the hot food. (We had a wine expert with us and drank Gevertztemeiner (sp?) until I couldn't see straight.) It is absolutely amazing. Have fun. Vegas baby, Vegas!

There are a couple of "good" comic shops here, but as for carrying back issues there aren't so many good ones. If you like Indy comics try Alternate Reality comics at 4800 S. Maryland Pkwy in Vegas. But it's a heck of a walk from the Strip. No real ones close by unfortunately. If you see this before you go PM me and I can take you around to a few if you have some free time.

Hey Grails,

That's the one I was referring to in my previous post...Rainbow & Cheyenne, right?

Unfortunately, their best books are usually ones brought in by customers/friends showing off their goods. Last time I was there, someone brought in a decent All-American #3 (1st WW?), I believe.

I appreciate the gesture and all the input. I got an e-mail tonight that one of my friend's will be arriving close to my time so I won't have as much solo time to kill. If I was out there on my own, I'd definetly look you up, James.

I've already got my cash stash for the Motor City Show. If I lose some of this money, no big deal, chalk it up to the cost of "fun". If I win some... the Motor City amount grows. lol

I will try to do that if we reach the Wynn. I haven't seen it yet. It was being built when we last went in 2004. We're not big gamblers but Vegas is the most convenient destination to arrive at that the wive's won't care about. The last time we did this, we went hiking at Red Rocks. We went to the top of Turtlehead Peak which was a great time. We're going back there on Saturday to hike another area. Should be fun.

Theres one on Sahara, just west of Maryland Parkway, and another on Tropicana thats in the same shopping plaza as the Pinball Hall of Fame. Neither is close enough to walk, and they aren't worth a cab unless you really enjoy pinball.

I like Comic Oasis on N. Rainbow BLVD. Just picked up a huge statue of the power loader from the ALIENS flick there today.

I think that's the place that opened while I was living there. I went in and the guy had only been open a short while and he turned down my ASM run from 21-32

I think the guy was a little wacky.
