Would Be COPY CAT ARTIST

This is my first post to this Society. I like to paint using acrylics Is it legal to paint a picture of a Comic Book Cover say for argument sake A Lone Ranger Comic with The Lone Ranger and Tonto riding thier horses.... and sell it at Comic Book Convention. I would not for one minute advertise that the Comic Book Cover I was trying to recreate was from the original Artist. I would make it quite clear that I was a copy cat artist making an attempt to recreate a specific Comic Book Cover.
