I just got this back from CGC. What would you grade it?

I just got this back from CGC. What would you grade it? Pages are WHITE, no hidden damage or tears, and no comments on Blue Universal title bar. It was scanned inside CGC case, but I think you can get a good idea of condition. Thanks.

Regardless, those Steranko books are the greatest!!! SHIELD #3 is one of my all-time favorite stories, covers and art. Numbers 1, 2 and 5 are terrific also. If anyone hasn't read any of those yet, you own it to yourself to buy a low grade copy for reading. You won't regret it.

Based on what I have seen come back from CGC lately 6.0 seems about right.BUT all the books we have gotten back from CGC in the last two months have been harshly graded as far as I am concerned.I have been grading books for 20 years and I was totally shocked by the low grades CGC is assigning to Silver Age at the moment.Granted I don't work for CGC but some of the books I expected to see 9.0/9.2 on came back with 7.5's.I know my grading is not THAT far off. 893frustrated.gif

I think you can have a book that looks like a 7.5 - 8.0 come back as 6.0 from CGC if there is a fair amount of wear or loss of cover gloss on a comic. When I look at this copy, I do see a fair amount of "scuffing" along the right edge at the top and the black background lower left where the skull is also has a fair amount of scuffing. I suspect there cold be a a fair amount of cover gloss that's gone from this comic because of the scuffin....and that could be why the comics a 6.0.

Is the gloss like new?

Or is there a fair amount of the gloss gone?

6.5.....and it looks like it is possible it may have been trimmed.

Gloss is like new, no scuffing. Only dullness is from plastic case. No problems in scull area. Comic has not been trimmed, as it was in storage since new. If they thought it had been trimmed, it would have been noted. There is some folded over paper at top edge, but not serious. Trust me, they just screwed up. I will call tomorrow for notes. sumo.gif

One other possible issue is that there are a lot of high grade copies of this book (i.e NM or better) that have been graded.

Just like most of us believe that Golden-Age books seem to get a higher grade than Silver-Age based on the defects, books that are submitted alot, are graded even more strictly. That's just my opinion. Plus, surface wear is a big factor in the grade that usually can not, be seen in a scan. In other words there can be a long NON-COLOR breaking crease that will downgrade the book.
