What did the last coverless Pep 22 go for?

I remember selling books to him that had loose covers and centerfolds and they would reappear on ebay without the loose covers or centerfolds.

I would appreciate examples of that, because I don't believe it's true. I understand someone here claimed in similar fashion we had sold a detective 27 with the wrong back cover, when in fact it was sold by with the original back cover and an extra original cover, and the buyers put the extra back cover on it. As anyone here can probably tell you it would have been easy for us to split away the horrific back cover and offer it as a split spine book but we didn't do that. We also knew it would be easy to restore it without revealing it was a different back cover. But we didn't do that. We sold it as it was. Somebody else on this board had the better back cover put on and as I understand it he, too, revealed it was a "donor" back cover. My partner informs me that book traded hands a few times and then reappeared recently -- as a restored with no mention it was a married back cover.

Not us who did that. Someone else.

FYI, didn't know we'd placed a snipe bid on this Pep 22 until after the fact. Turns out my partner bought a cover some years ago which I'd heard of but forgotten. This interior will be married to that (as I am told would be the plan for others on this board. I think one of the posts just a few steps back from filter88 attests to that. We've known him for some time. I'm told we've bid on quite a few of his books and he's bought more than a few complete and incomplete books from us (though sometimes after they went first to other dealers). If this Pep 22 is ever offered it will be described as having a married cover. But it may not be offered soon because the way it was purchased was on something akin to a ten-year plan. I understand we have another copy with a poor interior which would have made a better fit with this interior if we were to swap them out but that would mean making two married books instead of one, and he thinks they're better to leave the lesser one as it is.

I will try and find those auction. Go ahead and give me a list of all the different names you and your partner have used for the past ten years and it will make it easier searching my paypal records. If I'm wrong I'll be the first to apologise.Of course a lot of people don't see anything wrong in repairing a book and then selling it. There's no law against that. No one needs to admit that it was them that repaired the book, but it is a good thing to mention that it did have a repair. Have you and your partners bought and sold an Archie 5 within the last year?

This is a pretty serious accusation Vince, and I hope you have something to back it up with.

Poor Bluechip can't be blamed for everything...

With all due respect, that should have been done before you said anything. This makes it sound like you're just guessing or that you're not even guessing.

As for Archies I don't recall selling any raw archie comics at all in several years. Think the only one we've sold was a pep 22 more than a year ago, in beat to hell condition, a good candidate for resto but chose to sell it raw with its myriad defects.

If you want to do detective work, look up the detective we sold (and yes it's we because I am not the only one who owns these books) to a board member. It came from heritage and had a giant piece out the back. As duly noted, we sold it just like that. (what would be the easiest book to fake with a spare part? I am guessing it'd be a split cover with the back or front coming from something else. Guessed that before we sold it but didn't do it) But back to being a tec on the tec, if you want to be a tec, look up the heritage auction and then compare closely the up close details of the book to others offered in the last year. I've been told the book surfaced again with no mention of back cover. I've seen that sort of thing occur lots of times from books I sold; used to consider it none of my business. But I am getting info that says those who've done these things are attacking me now, so I guess that sorta makes it my business now. So anyone wanna check? Beuller?

You know what....you're absolutely right....I should have checked better beforehand, but after the info you gave me in the PM, it appears I was thinking of someone else and until any evidence turns up to prove otherwise, I apologise for that mistake.
