Because I'm as insane as the lot of you... I did the official zombie count on all of the artwork that has been produced for the interiors of the main Walking Dead series from issue 1-96 and this is what I came up with:

Zombie pages: Each page in which a zombie appears.

Minor page (appearance): generally only 1 panel with a very small zombie shot or minor shots of tiny background zombie stick figures

Major page: any non splash or DPS in which zombies appear throughout the page

Splash page: a full single page with no additional panels in which a zombie appears on the page. A few of these are major as in the entire page is all zombies or giant shots of zombies, but I didn't break it down to that degree in splashes.

Double Page spread: same as splash.. a DPS in which zombies appear, some larger some smaller.

Tony Moore's run 1-6

Minor pages: 16

Major pages: 22

Splashes: 3

Double Page Spreads: 0

Total zombie pages 41 out of 132 total pages produced = 31% of the pages Tony produced have zombies on them.

Charlie Adlard's run 7-48

Minor: 70

Major: 102

Splashes 8

Double Page Spreads: 6

Total zombie pages from 7-48 = 186 out of 924 pages produced = 20%

Charlie Adlard's run 49 - 96

Minor 43

Major: 110

Splashes: 8

DPS: 12

Total zombie pages from 49-96 = 165 out of 1056 pages produced = 15.6%

Total for Charlie Adlard Iss 7 up to Iss 96

Minor pages: 113

Major pages: 212

Splashes 16

DPS 18

Total zombie pages from Charlie Iss 7-96 = 351 out of 1980 pages produced = 17.7%

So yes, a zombie page is pretty rare... although that actually seems higher than I've noticed as it seems like 1 to 2 zombie pages an issue if we are lucky. However there are certain issues in which most of the book contains zombie pages and then several books in which there are no zombies whatsoever.

I don't have Issues 97 to current handy so I didn't compile the stats there.

All of that zombie counting makes me feel a little vaklempt... talk amongst yourselves...

Wow!

Nice going Mark. Was just looking at that mammoth task myself and including some of the appearance totals of A and B listers... and possibly some other info. I soon realised this could take a few months to complete.

Mark!!! I'm giving you a standing ovation from SoHo.

So case in point, you find a zombie page, you buy it. And be prepped to spend on it because minor or not, they're not easy to come by.

Glad to be of service ;)

Oh and for the record, if you go to www.splashpageart.com and type in the words "walking dead zombie" into the search field for my website it will bring up any/all walking dead zombie pages.

If you do that search right now, you'll find 6 minor zombie pages and 2 major zombie pages (one being a borderline minor but because of multiple panels it got the nod to major ... imho)

I'll let you guys compile 97 - 117

Mark

Branget and Comicalgems are arguing discussing in the Preacher - AMC thread about the price of WD #1 before the show was announced, with the context that WD has caused collectors to rush to buy #1s after a show is announced in case it is the next WD. This is funny to look at too, a post from 3/19/10. There are currently 1751 on the census.

It sure seems like they are all slabbed! Especially, after Branget's post.

But, the census only shows a total of 437 graded so there are plenty of raw books out there. (thumbs u

So it seems that for something to be 'The next Walking Dead' it already has to be a $500 book then get announced for a TV deal.

At that point in time, what issue was TWD on? 70-80 something?

69 came out Jan 2010. 80 was released in October (this issue has the Photo Arizona Variant, which is pretty sweet).

Walking Dead was VERY popular before the show was announced. So I guess for something to be the next Walking Dead, it will need to have a large following previous to a TV/Movie announcement, be in relative short supply, already show a strong market demand in price, have 5 years worth of issues under it's belt AND still being published.

Can you think of anything that meets these parameters?

I just got a sweet #80 photo variant 9.6 in the mail
