how many spider-man issues can there be??

8 posts in this topic

I'm sure it's been discussed ...

but how many existing issues of any early amazing spider-man can there be??

I'm talking about complete, in-tact issues through the first few years.

If print runs were about 15,000 (I'm guessing) ...

then there's like 3,000-5,000 of each issue from the 1960's??

Am I way off here??

RE-PHRASE:

Can someone give me the Print Run numbers on early Spider-Man & X-Men issues??

And if you're a good guesser, can you tell me what % of issues still exist today in complete/collectible form??

Are there 20,000 Spider Man #1's still out there??

Thanks - newbie silver-age collector

It's interesting to speculate on exactly how many copies of a particular comic still exists. Using my own theory, I'd say a little over 6,000 copies of Amazing Spider-Man #1 are floating around (known and still to be discovered). That may be a high estimate. I'd bet there are at least 3,000 copies. As Spider-Man's popularity grew so did the print run and there would be more copies of those issues in existance, obviously. Your guess of 3,000-5,000 of the early issues is a good one (in my opinion).

In general, print runs were at least 150,000 for all those books...

but it's probably not likely that more than even 10% of those survived.

Whether it's 1% or 5%, though, would be a big difference.

Do you really think that 10% is the max that survived? I thought it would be much higher - especially if you use let's say a 1.0 as a cut off - in that low grade there has to be a bunch . . ..

Also, for some reason I thought that the print runs would be easily 250K if not more like 500K . . .
