How does one search for a piece of art?

5 posts in this topic

Lets say I wanted to buy some Original Art (I do)

Lets say that I have no idea how to find the piece I want ( I dont)

How does one go about searching for a particular piece? Indeed, how does one even know or find out if a piece is available for sale...or even still in existence? Is it blind luck to find the one you want? What are the tricks of the hobby?

Incidentally, I would really love the cover for Weird Western Tales #12 or at least interior page 1 of the story "A Time to Die", inks by Wrightson and Pencils by Neal Adams. :roflmao: I have no hope of ever owning them but they sure would be sweet.

Lofty goals indeed, huh?

The only way to find the one piece you really want is to let everyone know which piece you are looking for (you haven't) :kidaround:

Or contact collectors that have collected pieces similiar to the one you are looking for since they are most likely to be in tune with that niche market.

Search eBay and CAF incessantly. If it is a lower end piece (not thousands and thousands of dollars) most pieces pass through CAF and Ebay eventually. It's a proven fact.

I'll give youa few tips

first thing you do:

ASK THE OBVIOUS SUSPECTS

you're looking for a bronze age thing so ask Albert Moy or Mitch Itkowitz

post a wanted on this chat board (in the right section of course)

the art you mentioned should exist unless it was destroyed in someone's house fire, or flooded home or by a vindictive (and angry) wife
