Framing a piece of art.

I am seriously looking for my second piece of OA and once I settle on it I will certainly want it framed. At the moment my OA collection consists of signed prints with one piece of OA received as a gift.

 

My question is what steps, materials etc. should I be aware of when having a piece framed? Im concerned about how the item is set into the frame. Certainly you dont have it permanently attached to the matting, etc. right?

 

Any advice?
