Of the 50 (?) or so copies of Action Comics #1 still known to exist, how many of them are missing the last page of the Superman story?

 

Here's the culprit: a house ad from the inside front cover of Action Comics #1, promoting a "color-page contest" where you can win a dollar for coloring in the first page of the Chuck Dawson story "the best you possibly can."

Many of you probably know the rest of the story: the first page of the Chuck Dawson feature is on the back of the last page of the Superman story.

 

Incidentally, that 1938 dollar is worth about $14.30 in today's money. Don't know if it means anything, but the third wrap from Action Comics #1, which includes pages 5 and 6 from the Superman story, is currently at $250 with 8 days to go in this Comic Link auction.
