So what was up with the first few screencaps? Were they in some sort of museum or something?

Yeah. The scene is a flashback that turns out to be of an event that never really happened. The figures are supposed to be part of a superhero exhibition at London's Madame Tussauds--only DC heroes made it into the film though.
