I was looking at my copy of young allies 17 today and noticed it has only 1 staple (almost in the middle of the book)

Was this done during wartime to conserve or is this a printers flaw?

I was wondering that too, because my Young Allies 16 only has 1 staple aswell.

Many books from the war period had only one staple in the middle of the book, there was a metal shortage.

Yep, starting from 1943, Timely, Continental, and Nedor mainly used single staples on comics in an effort to conserve precious metal for the war...

Young Allies 12 and 20 also have only one staple. I have some Fawcett comics (Wow) that have only one staple.

I saw an All Star comic with no staples and the seller wanted the VF price. I thought it should be less than good since the cover was not attached.

I don't think DC did this very often.

I have a one staple comic that has been rebound with thread.

I am not sure what the advantage was for doing that but I have found several golden age and a Spiderman with thread in the binding.

I just sent a Wonder Comics 17 to CGC and I thought it had 2 staples so I was not sure why my Young Allies only had 1.
