How many graders look at CGG and 3PG books?

8 posts in this topic

I was looking around on the CGG and 3PG web sites for any word about whether more than one grader is involved in the grading of comics, and I couldn't find anything. 3PG somewhat suggests that more than one person might look at it because it says Garofalo, the guy who runs it, assigns every book its final grade. Since the site uses the word "final" grade, it's inferred there might be a grade before the "final" one, but nothing definitive is said that I could find.

Anybody know whether it's one person or more than one person who looks at CGG and 3PG books? Right now, that's seeming like the major differentiating factor between CGC and the competition, and it also might explain why the prices on the competition are lower!

I've thought about sending in 1-2 S.A. books to be graded by CGG to see what they're like. My main concern is whether or not they have insurance. I looked on there website but couldn't find anything about what happens if they damage my comics or they're stolen. So I've shyed away from them. smile.gif

What a CYNIC! tongue.gif Give em a chance, they're doing a tiny bit of good out there. I still find the 3PG label style to be compellingly informative. I'm thinking about sending some moderns to 3PG just to see the "report card" and how their holder is. And I'm really curious to figure out how effective Garofalo is at using that 100-point scale with consistency.

I'm assuming that's your book...can you see the defects they list in the areas they indicate?

The scans on almost EVERY 3PG ebay auction are absolutely crappy...and I don't think I've seen somebody scan the "report card" on the back yet! mad.gif

I won it on an auction for $9.99. I wanted to see what a 3pg book looked like, so I figured I might as weel get a high graded copy. According to the report card it says there are 2 printing ink defects. One in the upper left hand corner and one in the upper right hand corner. However when looking at the back it is difficult to detect any sort of ink defect through the casing. Maybe because of the acetate cover, who knows. Overall the casing is solid, although it has a very slight flex to it.
