??? on this book

OK, I'm getting together my run of Defenders that are going on ebay and I come across this book # 68.

 

Are books with no UPC code worth more then a UPC code book? Also the Diamond is a manufacturing screw up will that bring price down on books like this?

I popped it open and didn't see anything on whitman reprint inside. That was one of my guesses at first Supa.

That is indeed a direct sale version of Defenders 68 that was originally issued with 2 other issues in a poly bag. These issues have been discussed before and I consider them variants rather than reprints since they were appartently printed along with the newstand versions. See this site for a Grid of all known DIrect Sale Marvels from 1977 to 1979.
