MrBedrock
What a great book +1 Never seen it before. A guy came into the store who was a coin collector. He had been buying from Heritage for a number of years and decided to invest some money in comics. He started buying random raw bulk lots from their Sunday auctions in 2002, 2003, 2004...back when you could get some deals. He was retiring around 2010 and brought a bunch of stuff in to sell. Oddball westerns and Christmas stuff, along with the usual Harvey and Dell lots, all Heritage purchases. This was in there. I had seen it but never had a nice one before. Sqeggs
Seems as if you see a lot of these around despite its being a book from 1935. A testament either to Famous Funnies having had large print runs or people being particularly likely to hang on to Christmas covers.
Sqeggs
This issue from the year before is a lot tougher. Edited to add: Just looked at the CGC census and was surprised to find there are 11 blue copies of both issue 5 and issue 17. BOOT
Several years ago I posted some Christmas comics by Lee Mero in this thread. Here is a gallery of covers. Posted some interiors on that other thread if you are interested, including two new titles found this year.
BOOT
Recently learned that Mero also produced "picture stories" for over-sized "CHRISTMAS" annuals that were produced annually starting in the 1930s. These things are square bound, full of gorgeous artwork and inspirational writings. To me, the Mero pieces inside are the highlights. Here is the cover of the 1937 issue. No Mero inside, but love the colors on this image.
