What have I done? UPDATED with Scans

so I just picked up an AF15 for $1300 after live.com cashback...

Looks like you should do just fine to me. I would have asked for additional scans before buying. But if the front cover picture is representative of the entire book, and there is no resto, I'd say you did very well.

My logic here was that a .5 PLOD went for 1.5K and a 1.5 Universal went for 2.5K. Seller has 100% positive and accepts returns so I'm feeling pretty good about this, but I'm going to have to have a firesale to pay for it

Post detailed scans once you get the book. I agree with KingofRulers. Say it ends up being 0.5-1.0 unrestored, you got yourself a pretty nice deal for the current market.

Auction doesnt mention whether book is complete or not, so if it is NOT complete, you may not have standing to take action

While the one picture surely isn't enough to make an accurate assessment, I wouldn't see this grading lower than a 1.5 (unless there are some significant hidden/unseen defects) and if 1.5s are going for only $1500, that's a $1,000 drop in only a few weeks time!

Doesn't seem likely to be pulling any sort of scam with an incomplete book. I'd bet that the book will be as advertised...

I don't know that this book is representative of the market. It may be an exception because I think that this seller is unaware of the current market for this book and used a BIN option to sell it. If you look at the seller's history, you'll see they haven't sold many comics. Now, if this book had gone for 1500 in an auction format then it may well be a valid indicator of the market.

It doesn't look like a bad deal.

 

It says it's from the infamous Bill Black collection. I suspect this seller is Bill Black. I can't think of his real name, but Bill Black is the editor/publisher for AC comics. An independent line that produced a lot of books that are sort of a throw back to the GA, especially good girl art.

 

I know Bill lived in Longwood, FL . I used to run in the same circles as his daughter for a while when I was about 19. I never did get to see his collection back then. I also think that at one time someone broke in to his house and stole a bunch of books.
