funny, I don't see Whiz 2 (1) on the list lol

Rick;

Remember my comment that 'Tec 27 started out in my data as the #5 ranked book before ending up in a very strong #2 position.

It was Whiz #2 that was holding down the 4th spot for the first couple of years of my data. It is now down in 10th or 11th position.

Moving in the opposite direction if I remember correctly, is AA #16 shooting up from being only a Top 20 book to being a Top 5 book. Probably one of the biggest movers from a percentage point of view.

I love whiz 2/1... had a great restored 7.0 and a wonderful unrestored 3.0...but, it is a tough sell these days...little demand at anything near guide... yet, the big red cheese once outsold the Big S himself (and I don't mean fishler)...

I think someone else mentioned how AA 16 has really jumped...maybe a GL movie will kick it higher

- Tec 27's rise began around the time of the first movie when it took the number 2 spot, but didn't really take off until a couple of years later in the early 90's. Action 1 took off as well and the top 2 began to distance themselves from the others. This backs up what Crowzilla was saying about the big ticket sales of these two books during this period.

Remember that OS is supposedly reporting on the market for the previous year. As a result, he should be at least one full year behind in his prices. Of course, we all know how conservative Bob is and he likes to see some price consolidation in the marketplace before really raising the guide values.

So, the Batman movie comes out in the summer of '89 and the prices moves up by a healthy 48% over the next 2 years. It is not until the 1992 guide (reflecting 1991 and before sales) that it really takes off with an astounding 62% valuation increase. This is then followed by a further 42% valuation increase from 1992 to 1993.

Most definitely not the typical OS price increases that we have all become accustomed to over the years.

I was actually quite surprised to see how well the Whiz 1 did in the Heritage auction last week. It's reflective of 2002 prices :o

Whiz 2 is one of those books that in my opinion has been most hurt by lack of public sales of decent copies, and as a result it has just vanished from the comic collecting consciousness since Geppi bought/traded for the MH copy from Anderson 15 years ago or so.

The only copies I ever see come up for sale are low grade or restored (or both). Significantly more mid-grade unrestored copies of Action 1 and Tec 27 have changed hands since then than mid-grade unrestored copies of Whiz 2.

Most definitely not the typical OS price increases that we have all become accustomed to over the years.

Of course Action #1 took a 38% jump in 92 and a 50% jump in 93, while Superman #1 took a 54% jump and a 63% jump those same years. None of those are typical OS price increases.

By this time, there were sales of both Action #1 and Tec #27 at over $100K and he really decided to play a little catch up for a change, the trend was just too hard to ignore.

I want to say one of those years is also the first time the guide went to 4 prices instead of the traditional 3 prices and that really helped increase the all books across the board (possibly 93 since even Marvel #1 took a nice jump that year) since the old top price was now basically the 3rd price and the 4th price was beyond that. Unfortunately I'm out of town and can't check any of my Overstreets right now.

it would also be nice if actual sales of the big books in Overstreet were reported with the quoting of these guide prices. We all know the guide is slow and deliberate in response to trends in the hobby (at least the annual guide, the updates under Jon Warren are a different story).

Wow, someone up. Spending all that time on PR and then breaking the auction page? Bad news.

"The whitest cream/ow pages we have ever seen. Will undoubtedly make its way back to CGC for a page upgrade. The winning bidder will be offered 6 month terms at 0% interest.

Fatal error: Call to a member function authorizeBid() on a non-object in /var/www/vhosts/cc/live/site/common/classes/bookSearch.inc on line 1260"

That's really bad.

Did anyone see Vincent on Foxnews today? Curious as to what went on.

The piece of Fox was to last about 5 minutes. One minute into the piece, they had to cut away to Socialist Obama. Apparently, he had to have yet another press conference on how the sky was falling. Fox is going to schedule an update after the book is sold.

1) No politics. 2) Some of us Dems have money to spend too.

Where is that shooting ones self in the foot gremlin :baiting:

Oh c'mon. Collectors would buy from Satan to get a book they "needed." You think an anti-Obama comment is going to scare any bidders off?

lol

The last time I bought a book from Satan, it burst into flames shortly after I finished paying for it. doh! Talk about brittle pages! The last time I made a blatantly political comment I got a strike.
